Are these two cue makers on the same level? For ex. on a scale of 1 - 10 wold you say they are both 8's?

This would be based on hitability, design, value for your dollar.

This oughta be good, I can't wait to see where this thread goes. I personally am a big blackcreek fan, I think they play incredibly and quality is up there with the best.

My 2 cents,

My subjective answer to the subjective question is..... I don't have a lot of experience with Travis' cues, but I would consider Dave Kikel to be a 7 or 8 in terms of design, and probably a 9 on execution and playability. I have seen a few Blackcreek cues up close and personal, and they look damn fine as well, but I can't give an opinion on the hit.

Chris

I can't really comment on the hit for either cuemaker....but I will say that design/fit/finish/execution of both cuemakers is excellent!

It may rattle a few cages, but i'd take my kikel every time. His work is precise, and it hits lights out. What you'll find with this question is mostly personal opinion; you'd have to try them both to find what you like. I'd buy another kikel if the timing was right. Hope that helps.

Love both!

Some of Daves designs are not my taste but they always seem to play very well and the construction is excellent. I believe that his cues are an excellent value.

Travis makes a great playing cue and has the best finish of any cuemaker IMO.

I agree

I agree that the finish on Travis's cues is the best out there. The cues still look wet with the finish that the uses.

I'm very fortunate to have the nicest cue that Travis has made to date.
It is a very highly figured amboyna burl eight point cue with ivory joint and beautiful lizard wrap. The ring work is beautiful silver and is the only design of this type he has done. The cue was on display at Valley Forge and was highly praised by many well know cuemakers and collectors. It plays rock solid with a very quiet hit.

Russ......

That may be one of Stans other cues but the cue he was hinting about was this one.
Or maybe he was hinting about both... :)
Stan - hope you do not mind my posting up the picture for you but only included the butt. That is a beauty and I am glad you told me the details about the design.

Enjoy.

I have never seen a Kikel cue, but it sounds like a quality cue. I can say that Travis makes a very solid cue. when you hit the ball, you don't feel any give from the tip to the butt of the cue. And his detail is as good as it gets.

i feel pretty much the same as the above.

Blackcreek cues are very nice and can be obtained at good prices these days. Dave Kikel is a master, plain as that.
You wouldn't regret spending money on either.

I agree with Marc. Dave is a true master and his fit and function are amazing. He uses well seasoned wood and his cues play lights out. I have never hit balls with a Kikel that has been anything less than stellar. I have also owned a couple of Blackcreek cues and they are very nice and have a great finish.

I don't think the hit is close to the same on either cue, so I think it would be comparing apples and oranges to make a direct comparison...

Steve

Myron, thank you for posting the picture of the bottom of the cue and if you have other pictures of entire cue please feel free to post. The cue showed by poolhustler is not my cue but is gorgeous. Don't believe I have ever seen that cue posted before. Do you know when it was made? Myron, I absolutely love the Steve Klien cue I purchased at Valley Forge. It is the cue I play with all of time. Love the narrow butt and the butterfly points are beautiful. Highly recommend his cues.

Stan

Do not have a good one of the entire cue but here is the forearm.
Great work by Travis.

Do believe you walked away with some great cues from the show but will limit the conversation to the Blackcreek and Kikel cues.

Guy

I was wondering if that was your cue but could not remember.
There are some pretty pieces of wood in that piece and the ring work is just incredible.

Enjoy,
Myron

Here are a couple Kikel samples - the first one with respect to POCKETWOLF
