Kling Coming Along

IF I lived in MN, I'd camp on your doorstep to play on that table! Those old tables are SO solid, the Slate SO thick that even the sound of the balls rolling on it sound different from the commercial Brunswick G.C. or Diamond Pro. That table should out live us both! HAVE FUN with it. I know you have the top notch accessories to go with it.... "Class Act" !!

Thanks Wayne,

This last weekend was just not meant to be. Looks like next weekend if all goes well. I'll post final pictures when she's done.

Sorry if I missed it...

The base is veneered or solid wood? THe grain is so nice to see. You never get that on a GC, though Diamond did bring it back.

I like.

The entire structure is veneers. Looks like the outer decorative veneer is rosewood to me but could be some other wood stained to look like rosewood. As Wayne said, these things are HEAVY. The frame is like butcher block on steroids. Lamininated 4x4 structure (except the legs, which are hollow but very heavy duty). The side panels are 4x16 and the top structure 4x12 (aprox.). Damn thing probably weighs as much as a complete modern table as she sits and we haven't even put the 1-1/2" slate on yet! Should have some nice pictures next weekend.

Unless something unforseen happens in the next 2 hours, we should be finishing this thing off today. I'll post some pictures of the final assembly as soon as I can. Probably a new post with links so the pictures are on the first post.

Can't wait,

MN Kid...You've put some loving work into this table. It's gonna be a joy to play on! You just don't see many Klings anymore. I envy you...

You have done great work on a gorgeous table. I have a question about the model of table though. Every Kling I have seen has white Holly or MOP squares like ring-work around the table and in the legs, are you positive it is a Kling?

Kling

Like 'hangemhigh' I don't think this is a Kling.

It is an 'elephant leg' style however.

With a little research, I could find out the model - but it is not a Kling from my experience.

Well, I'm 99% sure it isn't:
1) Kling
2) Medalist
3) Alexandria
4) Conqueror
5) Harrison
6) Enterprise
7) Hudson (Kling on steroids!)

It looks very familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it. I'll take a look thru my files & see if I can't narrow it down.

Here's a Hudson!!

EDIT: I just realized the above sounds rather pointed, I don't mean to be dismissive of this BEAUTIFUL table & your hard work. I'd LOVE to own such a beauty! Congrats on owning such a fine table. I also checked my files & an online Brunswick gallery & I can't find a comparable model. Must be a custom?

According to Ken Hash at Classic Billiards, it is a Kling but must have been custom ordered with the different inlay work. He said this was not uncommon back then. It is the only one he's seen like it and was quite taken by it. I sent him detailed pictures of the serial numbers, rails, legs, construction, etc.

Here's a link to the finished table post if anyone is interested.
