Knocking someones action......

Maybe I just don't have the "Bug" when it comes to gambling, I dunno. Thats something I really dont understand or maybe the hustlers dont understand it about people like me (and there are ALOT of us out there)... the Hustling thing... I dont mind playing someone that plays me full speed and kicks the shit outta me. Regardless if someone is "hustling" and pulling shots or if someone is coming at me full bore, they are going to be able to extract the EXACT same amount of money from me. Differences is if I feel like someone isnt giving me their full game, I'm likely to be offended/angry and not likely to ever play them again. If your bringing your game and spanking my ass, I respect that. I will gladly pay you off more than once just for the pleasure and challenge of playing someone that good.

If your doing that it doesn't matter who your playing or what speed they play. If you want to give them advice tell them that. Today most what I see happening is the knocking of action. All I know is, if I walked into the room one night and saw an out-of-towner gambling on the head table for some decent stakes, I'm going to walk right up to the front desk and ask who it is. You won't see me going, "NO, DON'T TELL ME HIS NAME! THERE IS AN HONOR CODE WE LIVE BY! LET ME FORK OVER MY MONEY TO THE STRANGER WHO CLAIMS TO BE CAESAR MORALES!"
 
If you make your money hustling pool your answer will be DON'T knock the action. If you have been hustled many times your answer will be to Knock it. Bottom line...don't play people you don't no. Like the old Clairol Hair Color ad...it's the only way to know for sure. Johnnyt

It all depends on the mood I am in. I don't owe anyone except a few close friends anything and they can all handle themselves in the clinches. On the other hand I don't owe a thing to the road player either and if he is really trying to run a major scam he is trying to play the entire room including me for a fool. The inclination is to bust guys like that just for grins.

I always consider road players cheap entertainment of one sort or the other. A lot depends on how they are behaving. If someone comes in looking for a game and not laying down a BS scam I don't see why he should give his name rank and serial number.

:mad: OMG what a bunch of goobers. Sure you protect your best friends but you do not yell OUT LOAD IN A POOL HALL and KNOCK SOMEONE ELSES ACTION! That is a great way to get punched in the nose! You are as DISCREET as you possibly can be with your friend. Who are your friends anyway. How friendly do you have to be to protect them?
 
I bartend in the poolhall, and have everyone clocked, but other than my 2 best friends, I'm not trying to knock anyone's action! But on the other hand I will tell them my honest opinion if they ask (both sides) , but I won't just offer it to either of them. They are grown people who are both trying to rob each toher, so if they get busted, it's their own fault!

I look at it this way.... The guy is trying to earn a living based on his talent. He wasnt going after nits or kids....... leave him be. If someone goes off and loses a large sum of cash, their bad. Thats gambling. He wasnt out to rob people, he was making games.

He wasnt outright hustling trying to make out like he couldnt play. He wasnt showing his full speed....... and there is nothing wrong with that.

I don't know why I should have to tell others....Let them find out on their own or play them and find out that way. What do I care if everyone in the hall throws their cash away? They're hurting themselves, and if they want to avoid that, don't play him for cash....

And most who are gonna LOSE BIG though wouldn't heed a warning anyway.

I rarely showed my full speed when I had a little. Always figured there was no need to work harder than I needed to in able to win. Focusing to lay down a game to beat an "A" player is a lot more work than what is needed to beat a "C" player. Why work harder than I had to?

I didn't hustle "C" players but donations were always graciously accepted!

Running 2 friends and a stranger or the double dump are cons, pool is the vehicle to run that con. It's wrong and something should be said.

Relying on your talent to liberate someone from their money is not conning someone, and like in golf: You never make a putt you dont NEED. This is no ones business and it isn't a crime like running a con game is. Nothing need be said. If you think your "friend" is in over his head, you can offer that opinion to him, but in the end he's the guy with money on the light.
