My trimmer has a terrible vibration, Porta Cable model 7301 .
I am either going to rebuild it or replace it with a DeWalt or a Ridgid.

If I buy a Ridgid I will have to make or buy a new mounting bracket.

Also need a Part number for a complete rebuild kit for the Porta Cable model 7301.

It's probably better to just buy another 7301 I've seen them as low as $66. Anyway here's a link to parts.

Hi,

I have 3 rigids on 3 different work stations. When I bought them there was a garuntee that is you kept your reciept that they would give you a new one if it had any problem.

These units are 8 to 9 years old and I have not had any problems whatsoever. They were about 100.00 each so I am a very happy Rigid user.

You may want to check to see if they are still offering that garuntee.

Do you like the variable speed control or is it no big deal.

Are you cutting points with it ?

I will call Porta Cable up , and see the cost of a rebuild kit.
Thanks everyone

trimmers

i used a dewalt for several years then switched to a rigid, did'nt take much to change mount, the rigid is smaller,i just added a rubber padding.i'm much happier with the rigid as it has a light and is noticably quieter.i did the dewalt for the warranty, but to my knowledge no one does a replacement anymore,if something happens, you might as well toss and buy another.JMO

I have been using that controller for a couple of
years with no problems. Decrease the speed and
the noise drops a bunch.

whammo57, that is excellent advice!! If you would like a variable speed control for a Dewalt or PC router they are readily available ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROUTER-SPEE...061?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58a249519d ) I have had very good results and they run much quieter at about half to 2/3 speed.

I have tried a speed control but I always go back to full speed and it seems to cut better. In stead of the HF speed control, I always wear the HF ear muffs when cutting with a router. ... LOL

up date

I wasn't happy with the level of vibration and noise the porta cable made.
that and the fact that other companies like ridgid come with a life time warranty.

Thanks to todd aka tsp&b our fellow azer with a ridgid mount.
I picked up 2 ridgid trimmers for under a 100.00 a piece.

the ridgid trimmers come with rpm control , another factor in which one to buy.

Thanks everyone for your advise

They have speed control but I run them balls out all the time.

Rigid model number

Does anyone have the Rigid model number? I've been through 2 PC 7310 in the last year, so I'm ready to change. Thx for the help.

Mike or anyone else that is currently using rigid..

Please give us some feedback on how you like the Rigid laminate trimmer compared to the PC trimmer. I have 2 of the porter cables and one is in need of another rebuild. It might be time to try something new, but I would love to hear feedback from someone that has switched.
