Well I was thinking about some of the trouble with pool and the pro players not making much money in it because pool itself is not in trouble on the amateur level. The big thing is the expenses it takes which are usually $1000-$2000, maybe $500 for some local stuff within driving range for a pro event.
If all the players were in Vegas along with events I think pro pool would have a chance. I think when Bonus Ball starts and the players are there and living in Vegas we will see more events in Las Vegas from other promoters because the attendance will be high. Just look at some of the recent events and the attendance numbers, stronger players and larger fields then years past in the Reno bar table and California tournaments such as the Chet Itow and Swanee.
I really hate to see pool players having to go out in the middle of nowhere with high room rates and lots of money in expenses, they have to finish really high to make a little money. If pro pool was centralized in Las Vegas then players would have a chance to make a living as they do not have to fly there, pay hotels and all of that, also housing in Las Vegas is very affordable.
The weather there is much better then freezing your butt off at other events along with other things to do instead of being trapped. Oh and did I mention some of the greatest food in the world too. I think it would be easier and more enjoyable asking your significant other to go to Vegas to watch a tournament and being able to do other things besides that when you want as opposed to other venues where you are stuck. Flights are cheap also.
Tons of pool fans come to Vegas all the time so having pro events there on a regular basis would make sense I think. I know there is the downside you will say about gambling and all of that in Vegas but players go to casinos for other events so I believe most would be fine there and those who can't control themselves will stay busted but that could just be the personality type they have.
I think events like the US Open 9 ball and DCC would have bigger attendance there also. The US Open 9 ball might actually be able to make it with the backing of a casino since its the longest running tournament and gets some big names, maybe they would be able to play players and get it right. If not I hope Barry sells the name to Mark so Mark can do it in Vegas and do it right. Just some of my thoughts, feel free to chime in with yours.
P.S. Who knows, maybe the casinos will start booking pool too if there are some big events there.
