Lets all dog on APA

There Mowem down you got your answer from the horses a**.. I mean mouth. :D

I thought that was the case on taxes though.
Yea thats funny, I have yet to tell the story to someone in or out of pool that doesnt think it sucks...

I'll tell ya the big kicker I have my own bis. so to be able to go and not fall behind (my clients come befor pool) I had to mow 36 yards in three days, gave myself a hernia doing it. While I was there I could hardly walk around the table, its got alittle better but I still need the operation my deductable is 5000... I wonder, ya think they'll cover that for me.

i'd like to complain about the playing conditions I was put in on tuesday.

At every corner there was a significant obstruction. I was forced to wrap my body around a pole, literally, and shoot my cue at a huge incline. I, of course, couldn't use a jump cue because you aren't allowed to break down a j/b in league play.

As a result I scratched because of my lack of options in terms of English (I made the ball though  ) and gave my opponent a critical game.

If you want to be a serious league for players, you can't be playing in subpar hole in the wall joints with 2 tables and no regard for playability.

It's ridiculous. As soon as I'm done trying ot get to vegas this year I'm definitely done with APA.

Going to Vegas

If the goal is to play in Vegas, the BCAPL allows any qualified team to play in our national 8-ball event. It is at the Riviera in May - close to 250 tables. Our system eliminates all the sandbagging crap.

Most will agree that we are a lot more fun than the other leagues. The Vegas event is NOT handicapped. Just come and shoot your best.

There are two team divisions: Open - Master
You can also play in the singles. Open - Master - GrandMaster

Qualifications are easy - just play eight weeks in the same league. Each team MUST have three original tema members - that prevents just sending stacked teams in.

It is tougher competition than the other leagues - but also a lot more fun.

The LAST thing I ever want is IRS snooping into my POOL life

I made it to Singles Nationals several years ago and never realized UNTIL I received my "package" that it was not $10,000 in CASH but only a couple of thousand in cash and the rest was STUFF :thud: (I think that was the "prize" amount - may have been $5K)

You have to be over 21 to play in the league so don't you think we already HAVE this "stuff" (or don't WANT it) The 1099 is probably on the full "retail" price & you will have to take waaaay less than 1/2 of wholesale assuming you can even sell the stuff.

I wonder if you can take "cash equivalent" instead ??

I play 4 nights in "local" money leagues and 1 APA night -I will have to re-think whether or not I should switch that APA night back to money league

The thing with taxes on that stuff is for some people it may put them in a different tax bracket and cause them to have to pay in more or not get a refund. Uncle Sam will get his one way or another. Also noticed that nice stimulous check they sent out last year was counted as income and we was taxed on it this year LOL. Gotta love the IRS.

I understand now, you are so good and well known that you would be outed by other people who know who you really are. The other guys who are locals but are not recognized make a killing in the minis. Hope I got this right. What is a "killing" anyway? $100, $400, $900, $2000? How many minis can one skill level play in at the nationals including any doubles tournaments? If a player were to win every mini they entered and won it wouldn't equal a "killing" and no way worth the gamble of still having to beat everybody else in a short race on bucket bar tables.

LOL you seem to get upset when someone says anything bad about the APA. "Blah Blah Blah I've played the APA for 11 years Blah Blah Blah". I have to laugh at the great APA players up here that do that. 95% couldn't even tell you what a push out is or who the h*** Johnny Archer is. What a joke.

QFT

APA is a great league if you can get a good team to bag and win a free trip to vegas. You will serve your pool game better by playing BCA or VNEA.

100% agreed Richardson. However that trip isn't exactly free. At least here in Maine if they qualify they have to go all over the state...overnight hotels, food, gas etc... not to mention dues. I'm sure it's different depending on where you play in the country. They also fly their teams out of Boston Mass lol... thats a 7 hour ride + fuel for some here depending where they live in the state. We are headed out to Vegas in June flying out of Maine with hotel & round trip flight it's only $658 and that is spent in expenses qualifying to get there with the APA.

And I wonder if all those expenses for qualifying for this FREE trip are a tax write off since you are taxed on a certain amount of winnings.

You think it might have been $5,000.00? You don't have to think at all. Just visit the APA web site. They list the breakdown. Last year, the 1st place winner in each 9 Ball tier (3 people) received $7,910.00 in cash and the remaining $2090 was a really nice championship ring and some cues, a case and a jacket. This also does not include the room and a travel allowance. All for approximately a $15 entry fee.

You know who isn't on here complaining about this prize breakdown? People who have won the event. And when the cash is all gone, they have a permanent keepsake to show their grandchildren how awesome they were at pool.

Mark, Mark, Mark. At one time I held a high regard for you as an ambassador to the game of pool. But, when you resort to slamming the competition and advertising your league in a "complain about the APA" thread, you belittle yourself to the point that I've lost that respect.

I'm disappointed to find you, of all people, adding to a thread that does very little to support the industry as a whole and those who contribute to its advancement.

Honestly that stuff should be on top of the $10k prize. Just my opinion.....
How much do some of the LOs make? $100k a year??

Is it ever enough??? You pay very little at a chance to win $10,000 in cash and prizes.

The amount that a LO makes has and should have nothing to do with the prize money. You have the option of not playing in that league. If you can find a league that gives more prize money for less money out of your pocket you have every right to do so. It's not like the prizes are a surprise at the end of the year. You know what they are before you play. If you don't like it then don't play. It kind of reminds me of the guy/girl that *****es about free shit. JMO

What we shoukd do is start a thread to talk about the BCA and TAP and see how they do ??????

The sad thing is the APA does contribute alot to the billiard world, but the facts are what they are and there are changes that could be made that would make the league way bettter, and it could still be for lower skillled playersto get their feet wet in a great game...

P.S. I talked to the guy that runs TAP in my area (he was a long time APA player) he spent 10,000 sending teams to FL. for nationals KNOWBODYS getting 1099ed and he only has 50 teams.... The APA is making a killing (dont trying to tell us otherwise) there is no reason (other then greed) were getting 1099's

Mowem down...You're pleading ignorance here sir. Talk to an accountant. If, and when, 1099's are sent, they are done so pursuant to FEDERAL tax laws. Do you really believe that an APA league operator (or the parent organization) conspires to try to tax their players? Geeeeeez...how in world could they benefit from that?

I guess the point I was making was that a lot of money goes in but little comes out. Sorry if I came across in a negative manner. That guy struck a nerve with me.
