Colin 'took 3rd place in the Aussie National 9-Ball Champs on the weekend.... Just missed out on a spot in the WPC, but still in the running to get in as one of the top ranked Oceania players now.'

Colin told me, "The US style pool scene here is pretty immature, so they don't have a website for coverage. But I'm trying to get the photos and results to do a story for AZB.

But there is some talent here. One of our pool players is ranked no.1 provisionally this year on the World Snooker Tour. (Neil Robertson). I used to play pool against him when he was 15yo.

And the reigning Aussie Champ, Lou Condo, who I beat 9-3."

Good shooting, Colin! I know you are too humble to toot your own horn, but I thought everyone would enjoy knowing we have a champion in our midst. :)

congratulations!

Good shooting! Hope to see more high finishes and some wins soon. With all of the ways the IPT has bit people in the butt it is good to see that maybe all of the effort put into your game to prep for those events is paying dividends elsewhere.

Congrats Colin! (Anyone who has Bender holding a beer in his avatar is OK by me!)

Thanks guys,
I guess I can thank the IPT for energizing me to train hard for the game again.

It's helped a lot to get back to Australia and have some regular tough opponents to apply some pressure.

I also should say that a lot of the stuff I've learned here and experimented with, regarding BHE and Throw Adjustments is starting to click.

btw: Any chance of getting a slot in the AZB top 100 now :p

Congratulations! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Two questions though:

1. Did you use a "cheap" Chinese slave labor cue in this competition?

2. Are you saying you could not find tough enough 9 ball competition in China?

Just kidding!

Thanks GADawg,

I used my trusty Jian Ying cue. One of the higher quality Chinese (not slave labored) cues. Actually produced by a friend of mine who has a cue factory a few hours out of Shanghai. Nice stiff conical tapered shaft.

They do outsourcing for several Taiwan and Japanese brands as I understand and also produce some of their own cues for the domestic market.

See: http://www.jycue.com/eabout.asp

As for not being able to find good competition in Shanghai, well, there certainly are some top players there that I probably should have played more with, but the social aspect is not the same as playing with some old mates who are always trying to push your buttons. It makes practice fun and competitive.

Hope you're well mate and giving that 9-ball hell :D

I figured you were still using your Jian Ying cue. That's why I asked the question.

I know Mr Wang and Mr Xia and if fact just got a new snooker cue from them about a month ago. Hand made, highly figured ebony with ebony and maple inlay. Really nice and no slaves involved either. If I get a chance, I'll put a picture up some time. Maybe I can help them sell a couple.

Where are you in Australia? I may be down there on business sometime this year.

Well done Colin!

It's not often I'll cheer an Aussie on (I'm English & a cricket fan, after all) but I'm chuffed to see you doing alright! Keep it up! Plus you're worth your weight in gold where your posts are concerned. Just don't go to Sovereign Hill to collect it!

OK, I'll admit it. I have a soft spot for OZ after living there for 2 years as a kid!:D

I'm in Geelong, about an hour from Melbourne. Closer to the beaches.

If you get down this way, make sure to look me up. You'd be welcome to stay over for a couple of days and I could show you some of the sights.

Good to hear you're providing some custom to Mr. Wang. He's a good bloke and sponsored the King v Queen event between Pan Xiao Ting and Ralf Souquet.

See their logo to the right of Ralf in the pic below. www.jycue.com

Cheers,
Colin

I have to admit I have a soft spot for the English also. Without you guys to beat, we wouldn't have had half as much fun watching our sports over the years:p

Good comeback there!:D

I do have some very vague memories of Geelong, but that was a long time ago. Me & my folks lived in Rosanna, closer to Melbourne (I think!)

As for the cricket, all the best for the World Cup. You guys are due a win!!;)

There's plenty of gold at Soveriegn Hill, it's just not free (althought they put $100 of gold dust in the panning creek each day):). I should know, as I work there, and enjoy just about every minute.

Colin, big congrats on the 3rd placing. You deserve all accolades, both as a player and an ambassador for cue sports (just check out his video site!). I won't be going to Albury, but will definately see you at the Ballarat Open, and I'll buy you a beer(or 2 if I've gone well:D )

Daniel:D

Captain Dan, I remember getting a few tiny flakes of gold at SH when I was 8 or 9 years old. You had to hold the little jar up to the light to even see the gold, but I loved that! I hope the kids that go there now get as much of a kick out of it as I did! Glad you enjoy it there, and look after it. You guys have got a gold mine there!:D
