Let's help Jack Hynes

My fellow ladies and gentlemen from AzB's,

I'm writing you today because, while reading old posts in the "Main Forum", I've found about Jack Hynes and the difficult situation that he's living now and I felt that we should do something for him. In the short time that I've been here on AzBilliards Forums I've been able to see how strong this community can be helping others and I'm sure that many of you have what it takes to put aside the man's mistakes and lend him a hand. Also, I know that there's still a lot of Christmas spirit in us to do a little to improve the life of a person most of you, as I do, know only for his legend.

For those who have never heard of him, you can read about him in this thread (some say this is one of the best threads ever, so please take your time to read it completely if you can):

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=86645

The man is described as a genius, a world class player and also as a hustler, a crook, a lier and a drug addict and the ones who know him admit that all those things are true. In the last four years, he was given up for dead many times, yet the last news we had from his is that he's still alive, but living a life of deprivation being homeless. I'm sure that he is no angel but I'm also sure that many of you (particularly the ones that have been on the road) know how this game can put some people on the edge and how easy is to go the wrong way.

I've been unable to find any updated news on him and I hope that we are not too late.

It would be great if any of you knew where is he now and would like to share it with the rest of us so we can find a way to help the man to stand back again.

From Spain, there's not much that I can do to find him, but I'll do my part if any of his friends who can still keep in touch with him helps me to.

Thank you all for your support; I'll be waiting for your comments.

(Sorry for my English)

Best regards,

Iago

what a bad idea. I can think of many other people who deserve to be helped much more than Jack Hines.

Iago,
Your English is fine.

It's obvious that you also have a kind heart.

There are many of us who would consider doing a kindness for Jack and many of us who know the story of the farmer and the snake, which you an read about by clicking here.

Some of the members of this forum have been burned by Jack, others have been warned and others have seen the good side of Jack Hines.

I'm not sure if Jack is even alive now. I haven't heard a report about Jack for quite a while. I would bet that if he is alive, he is most likely homeless. I keep hoping that one day I will read that Jack has gone into rehab and kicked the drugs. Only Jack can do that. There are programs out there for those who want to get off the drugs.

Helping Jack with money (which is what I think you are suggesting) is enabling an addict. If that is not correct, how do you suggest we help Jack? I would give of some of my time to direct Jack to the resources that could help him find a way to beat the drugs. Some of my friends on this very forum have beaten drugs and know the steps that are necessary to do so and wouldn't hesitate to offer help. But it is the addict that must want the help. If Jack, were to complete a drug rehab program, I would be part of those who would try to help out financially, so that he could get back on his feet.

Thanks again for writing and caring about another human being.

Kind regards,

Your English is just fine and your intent is admirable.
The last i heard he was living in or near Houston and trying to sell large motor homes.
i saw him at tournament in houston and he was merely a flash of what he once was.

This asshole lived his entire life with total disregard for another human being. I know it's the holidays and all but this guy torched every bridge he ever crossed. Give your money to someone who will actually appreciate it. Karma lives people.

I have a masters degree in substance abuse counseling.....have him call me three times a week, ill counsel him, and you pay me......I charge $200 an hour but for you ill cut it in half......please email me for my paypal addy:rolleyes:

Iago...Sorry man, but this sentence says it all. I'm in total agreement with JoeyA's comments. Until (if ever) Jack gets into a LOCKED rehab facility, he is and will always be an addict...and someone who should not be enabled. jmo

Hello gentleman,

Thank you all for your replies. Please let me try to answer you all one by one:

“Black-Balled”: I think that tigers must be saved (they are an endangered species and the only reason why I haven’t asked you all to help me save the tigers and chose a pool player is because this is a Billiard-related forum). Also, I cannot think of many better ways of dying than being killed by a tiger.

“punter”: Yes, that also seemed pretty cookie fortune to me too.

“driz86”: I understand what you say and I respect your position. My advice, if you know someone who needs help and deserves to be helped is “help him/her then”. I want to believe that Jack Hynes deserves our help too and, unlike many others, he’s someone many of us know and some of you have even met him in person, so we can join forces to help him properly.

“the77club”: Great, your support is much appreciated; I hope we are able to locate him and find a proper way to help him successfully.

“JoeyA”: Thank you for your kind words and understanding. I have to say that I have a pet snake (I’m serious) and I have to say that, once you get to know them, they won’t bite you if you treat them with respect. That said, you are right, just giving him some money will solve nothing and I believe we have to find a better way. I think that finding some of his old friends who can still be in touch with him and who is willing to commit to use the money to help him by providing him with a roof and keeping him away from drugs. I’m sure that, more than just the economic support, knowing that there are people who care for you will help him to stand back on his feet.

“ironman”: Thank you very much for the information and your nice words. Would you please tell us when was that tournament in Houston celebrated?

“garczar”: It’s true that he has done wrong to many people, no one is trying to deny that. Some others, however, still believe that he was an underestimated person who just too a bad way. Drug addicts are not in control of their behavior and you’ll have to admit that he has probably done worse for himself than to any other.

“TheCueHunter”: Are you serious? I have to excuse myself if you are not making a joke (as I’ve said, my English is just so-so) but, if you are talking seriously, I sincerely believe that three calls per week won’t help someone who has been abusing for decades and those $200/hour you ask for could be used to get him a place with a roof to say for a week and probably make his life a little more bearable.

“Scott Lee”: I think that we must accept the hard true that we are very unlikely to rehab him unless he has already taken that path (which is something that has been mentioned in the thread “Who is Jack Hines?” and I really hope it’s true) but, as I‘ve said, I’m believe that we can help make his life a little more bearable and let him know that he is not forgotten.

Well, that’s all for the moment. Thank you all again for your comments (even the negative ones, this is a forum after all) and let’s hope that someone who knows where Jack is can read this thread and tell us about him.

is this you jack???? You sneaky s.o.b.

Bowmer,
Jack would be grinning for a week if he read your post.

Iago: Don't feel sorry for the tigers. National Geographic recently reports that the tigers in Asia have already made a dramatic comeback and are expanding their territory. (You know what that means).

Bowmer,
Jack would be grinning for a week if he read your post..

I have a feeling he would lmao I have never met Jack but have seen and known a few like him. Most were pool players too. Scoundrels are everywhere even the Rocky Mountains

Well, let me begin answering “Bowmer” and “John Brumback” that no, I’m not Jack Hynes. I haven’t even met him. Also, just for the record, I’m not going to collect money from anybody.

“Bowmer”, I believe that a gentleman has no right to call another man a scoundrel if he has never met him and, from what I’ve read about Jack Hynes, it’s not very likely that there are “a few like him”.

To “JoeyA”, thank you for the updated info on the tigers’ population, it’s nice to know that they are doing well, at least in Asia.

That said, it would be great if we are able to keep this thread alive and use it to get some updated information that we can use to get in touch with Jack and his friends.

Sounds like a scoundrel to me lol. And yes believe me there are many in this world like Jack..... sad to say.

Iago,

Some say that Jack is a scoundrel, well you have to be if your a poolplayer to some degree, Jack is a gambler and good at it!

Jack just has a better rat trap than most to caught all the rats that are trying to get his cheese!

I just talked to Jack on the phone and he's doing fine, he is golfing now, playing 10 hrs. aday, so I guess he's doing what he want's in life at this time, so he's OK!

Trust me, you have never met anyone even remotely like Jack....

I ran with Jack a little in the early 90's. I myself can't imagine Jack needing any help. You can believe me when I say the man knows how to help himself.

As for wether or not there are a lot of guys like Jack... all I can say is that I have not met anyone else like him. That is a fact.
