A big congrats to Ko PIN Ching for a great showing under the circumstances.

A sad day for Pool, I would like to apologize to Ko Pin Yi for what happened to him.

Both events finals would have been Ko vs. Ko if handled fairly.

Whip out your wallet... Call all 16 back and you can run the tournament the way you want... I agree with Mark... I hang my head at the stones thrown at people who are actually paying and running the event.....

Already explained that forfeits are handled this way in other sports.... Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it wasn't fair... A bye into the finals while the other 2 players play would be more fair to you and less fair in my eyes... And everyone would have gotten to watch 1 less match....

Pool's integrity was compromised today, and the sport is all the poorer for it.

If by "pool hangs its head" you mean a handful of dudes on an niche internet message board for a niche sport then yes I agree. Also I think we need a few more threads about this topic. I'm having a hard time finding any discussion of it in the main forum.

Regardless of how the tournament went down, can we please just get their names right!

Souquet forfeited and even though Shane was knocked out they brought him back
instead of the normal bye Ko Pin Yi should have gotten. Black eye for Pool.
Sorry to use part of you name there.

Thanks, mon. I found the other thread and understand the (potential) logic behind Shane's recall.

You say Shane was knocked out, but he actually came in second in his group. Even before Ralph's forfeit, CSI was presenting the groups as having a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place, including in the 10-ball tournament. It was presented as a 2-stage tournament, not a knock-out or elimination tournament.

They could have just cancelled one of the semi-finals, sure. But replacing the first place with the second place finisher in the first stage was another logical and fair move. I just don't get why your side of this argument is so adamant and emotional about how wrong this was. You don't think this was even a reasonable possibility at all?

Actually I wasn't sure and went to the latest news section to check the spelling
and that's what they had, and I still felt that wasn't right and was going to check somewhere else but forgot, Thank you though I'll fix that right away.

Here it is I found it:
Pin-Yi Ko wins CSI Invitational 10-Ball Championship
"Pin-Yi Ko defeated his younger brother Ping-Ching Ko 11-9 in an all Taiwanese final to win the CSI Invitational 10-Ball Championship on Sunday night at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada."

Ko Pin Yi is how it would be said in mandarin, but I believe the article was just trying to keep everyone's name in uniform therefore typing Pin Yi, Ko.

This wasn't a double-elimination tournament; this was a round-robin. One competitor from the pool moves forward to the next round.

While it is a rare occurrence, it has happened in other sports. There is precedent for an eliminated competitor advancing in place of one who withdrew after qualfiying to advance to the next round.

Withdrawals After Qualfication- FIFA World Cup "FIFA invited Portugal and France, who had both been eliminated in qualifying, to fill the gaps left by Scotland and Turkey."

Ralph withdrew so the second-highest finisher got his spot. Kudos to the organizers for giving the pool world another great match instead of a bye.

Unfortunately, that news release doesn't surprise me.:angry::angry:

im with you on this.itsfroze i mean in no format can you bring in a player that lose or one that not even played for that matters.to play for someone that forfeit dont care how anyone spins it..it total bs.just think if you was big KO thinking your opponent forfeit and they say no you have to play svb lol not saying he was scared but it have to mess with you mentally.and no i dont have anything invested other then saying we all arent like that here in the states Big Ko.. (on a side note i bet someone will come on here and say Big Ko said it was ok for shane to play..lol)

YAY!!!! Sanity...... I was looking for that information.. I knew it had happened but was unaware how far back....

So the biggest sport in the world would have done what CSI did today.... Awesome find......

itsfroze you say this has how it's always been - please find another situation like this, with a two-stage tournament, where someone forfeited and wasn't replaced. If it's so obvious then there should be plenty of examples.

Yes, if it's double or single elimination, then a forfeit is a loss and the opponent advances. But that wasn't the situation here. It was clearly a 2-stage event where the first stage resulted in rankings.

The best precedent I can think of is the World 9-ball championships in Qatar just last month, where they had a stage 1 qualifying round and then the main stage. Are you telling me that if the winner of a stage 1 bracket had to forfeit before the main stage, they would have just left a gap in the final brackets? I don't believe it, but I couldn't find an example. You think it's always been that way, so please find an example.

My guess is that it hasn't happened very often, if at all in a major tournament. But it clearly hasn't always been that you leave a gap in the final brackets.

Yeah, and I am sure that the opposing team did not hear about the change until their new opponent came running out onto the field to surprise them with it.

Fifa invited Portugal and France who had been eliminated in qualifying but neither of them went. I don't know if they ever tried that again after 1950.

Not much of a precedent.

My question is that the people that listened to the 10 ball heard MD complain pretty strongly with an open mic about the equipment being at fault for his loses and from how the commentators were talking on the final day of the 10 ball it seems that SVB also had an episode about the format and disappeared for at least the final day after he was knocked out.

Now if the whole idea behind these invitationals is to keep the complainers out will they be invited back next year?
