On the road you need every dollar possible. Also on the road you can't dictate the games but what you can do is take the cash and leave. He wanted a set of each, he says this with the thinking of Jess has no shot playing 9 and 10 ball...if those games are off the table and I am JM, my ass is out the door, in the car, and going down south! Good win against a phenomenol player. It's like being in a casino playing craps. Someone is rolling for 45 minutes and you decide to push it to hard, then they crap out. The smarter gambler probably left the table 10-20 minutes before that happened, once you get the nut you squirrel out. Congrats JM!

I love how most of these guys are bashing Morra. If John lost, im sure all this would be all turned around. Atleast john played him in all games, and mixed it up.

Congrats to john, good shooting

Since he's on the road, he did the right thing, including picking someone that hasn't been playing. That's how you stay on the road. But, I think you will also agree that it is not the way to "move on to greatness" as his backer said.

I agree with you 100%, I know Morra real good, I wont put his biz in the streets, or a PUBLIC forum, thats just bad biz even befor the internet. I will say this though, this is his first real raod trip, he has been out and about before but not like this trip, being a raod man isnt his dream, greatness is. But you gotta walk before you run. So he is getting seasoned right now and making good moves(in the short term).

If he can play a bit better with what he is doing now, he will move up. I have alot of respect for Morra, he is a young man with a plan-and he is doing it. I'm proud of him, proud to be his friend.

The only thing holding him back from the "Big leagues" (if that even exists in pool anymore:confused:) is if he doesnt play stronger, and he needs to learn to move some, he is to offencive in play, I played him alot recently and saw a few holes in his game, even though he was shooting my nuts off, just cause I cant win dont mean I dont know whats going on...

Even if he isn't trying to survive on the road do you really think he was commited to play?

If Jesse was rusty and decided to still play well that was his decision. He obviously thought he had the edge playing 9, 10, and 8 or more likely felt that he was just a better bar table player.

When John Morra beat him all 3 games including 8-ball I'm sure he figured out that if they continued that way he couldn't get the best of it. So he changed up what they had discussed earlier.

It was said they talked about playing a couple sets of 8, 9, 10. I don't think Jesse is in the wrong to not want to do that again and I don't think Morra is in the wrong to want to stick to what they agreed on. Do you think Jesse would have jumped at the chance to play all 9 ball or all 10 ball, or even a choice of the 2? Of course not he knew his only way to not lose more money was to play his best game which of the 3 is Bar Table 8-ball.

These are 2 players that are trying to make a good game for themselves, John in this case has a stake horse that has to like the game to put him in action.

Jesse is a great player and we all know that so I'm sure they caught him at a time that he was out of stroke but it sounds like he was beat pretty handilly so it shows a lot of heart that Jesse wanted to keep playing any game against Morra.

In the end Morra made the right move, get out of there with the money. Now could he have left with more? Who knows, but he's on the road and he left with more than he had when he got there and isn't that the game?

What is it with road players thinking they can dictate the game they play, especially when they are up !

Good job JM, you pissed off the chance to win 10k for 3k and a bad rep for quitting winner.

As far as the greatness quote the only thing i can think of to relate to this is.......

When a poker player heads to the casino buys in and sits down. Wins the first hand for $50 gets up and leaves. Then tells all his friends how he went to the casino and beat up on all the great players there.

I don't think he quit winner. the game changed and he didn't agree, that's not quitting winner. That's like saying if I'm on the road say and I'm playing somebody 1pocket and beat em for 1200. Now he says I will play you some gin and I say no and leave town, cmon.

Also did his SH say that or was the poster mnb just being funny with the "future greatness" quote?

How bone-head was that post. After beating a guy at 8, 9 and 10 ball, he pissed off a chance to lose 3k or more in one game!!! Why should the loser always get the nuts in the end? That makes no sense! Like going double or nothing in the last set (which I always do for some reason) or giving the guy a big spot just because he's down. Once you win money, it is yours.

John didn't play one set and quit up. The game changed. Morra didn't like the proposed action and walked. Sounds like experience to me by not turning himself into a sucker.

Sounds like Jesse got killed playing 9, 10 and had a chance playing 8 ball. I dont see how Jesse was asking for the nuts. He wanted to play 8 ball even after he was just beaten playing it, lol ....

The one thing you're right about is that John could have left there up $10,000 instead of $3,000.

my only hope is now people will think they can come here and win! it might rejuvenate pool here if someone will actually come through and donate to us! maybe this will piss jess off and the better players in this area will regain their nationwide greatness!!! including my lazy non-playing self

Action and travelling players make the game exciting! I'd rather have a guy roll into town for a few days that can really play. Some one to cheer against. Most of our tournaments in the Toronto area everyone likes eachother so there is no drama there.

Even if the guy does leave town with the cash it's fun to watch and as we are demonstrating fun to talk about.

As far as what they played for I'm sure someone that was there may have the answer. My guess would be the same as yours $1000 a set.

morra is nitty because hes with kurtis

ok i never post here but here is what happened we agreed to play a set of 9 ball and a set of 10 ball for 1k apeice john tortured me then we played a set of 8 ball which took longer than other sets for 1k jon won that.then i asked to play another set of 8 ball for same amount or more whatever they wanted they refused. then i said i would play a set of 9 ball and a set of 8 ball for 1k a set or more if they wanted they refused.then i said i would play the same exact game all 3 sets 1k apeice or more but all we had to do is play on a different table and once again he refused.so to me that is being pretty nitty but im not saying it was john he is just on the road with the wrong guy kurtis is a huge nit from my hometown just to give u idea on how big of nit he is they were betting 1k a set and kurtis only probly had about 300 of it cause he gave alot of it away cause he is nitty. i respect john was great person to play no problems at all but anyone who dont think that this is super nitty of him is crazy he could of won alot of money now he wont win anything ever again from me cause of this move. i didnt ask to do anything different agreed to play the game he wanted after about 10 min of trying to get other games all he had to do was switch tables but they were satisfied with the change they won but that was last week that money is gona by now when he could still be here playing

As far as what they played for I'm sure someone that was there may have the answer. My guess would be the same as yours $1000 a set.

I was out in knoxville, Tennessee on business and had been hanging out at one of the local pool halls. You know just making friends with the locals not taking their money or anything.

Then one night, these two preppy looking guys, I've heard that one of them is John something... from Chatanooga maybe? come in and are obviously better than anyone in the room. They talk the older brother of the guy I've been hanging out with into playing getting the six out on the big table.

These guys are all bar box players. So they play one set for $100 and then the older brother quits....

Well I had been watching, and while anyone who knows me knows that I don't play for much money very often, I had made a tripover to the ATM and gotten out a couple of hundred dollars.

I tell them that if they give me the same spot, that I'll play him. they say no way that I'm better than that guy. They hadn't seen me play at all. I told them that I was breaking even with the other guys younger brother who wasn't even as good as him, and then they offer me the seven.

I take the seven and I spank him 9-2.

The other guy (Who I'm sure was the better player being held in reserve) says I'm not as good as my friend here, I'll play you even.

So I play him even and it ends up 7-2 and 7-5.

It's like four or five in the morning, and the place closes at 2, they're vacuuming and obviously wanting us to leave. These two guys were heading down to Atlanta for a tourney and had about twelve thousand on them and wanted to keep playing.

They asked how long I was in town for and I said till Sunday. They said they'd be back in on Sunday night and asked if we could play again.

I said sure but my plane left at noon on Sunday so I didn't get to play them.

the funny thing is, that a week or so later, the kid that had sat there watching, calls me at three in the morning wanting to put me in action, but I'm back in California by then.

It just goes to show that people like to watch new blood.

I just didn't like seeing those two road players take complete advantage of those guys like that otherwise I wouldn't have played for money.

Hey Jesse,

I remember the days when you tortured everyone up in minnesota. I grew up up there, they know me as big joe up there. I was a manager at big dogs when you played Shane and we had that big 8 ball tourney there. I never heard anyone complain about you up in minne, GOOD PLAYER, GOOD REP= GOOD MONEY.

Good luck

Jesse, why not just play the same games on the same table if you wanted to play so bad. Just wondering becuase it sounds like if you had done that you would have had a chance to get even. Why change the game?

I don't think it's fair to call them nits when you just couldn't come to an agreement on a game you both liked.

The guy just got beat like a teenage pen!s and all he asked to change was the table...how can you not give him a shot? Sounds like Jesse did everything he could to get some fair action. How can you expect a guy to not even be willing to switch tables when he has is 30 ahead in a total of about 8 hours.
