I know, the title sounds really bad, the opportunity to make a joke may be overwhelming, so please get it out of your systems, then back to the real subject lol I've read a many using a 30" pred shaft, and my current player has a laminated 30" shaft, and I like the way it shoots much more than standard lengths. I like between 12mm-12.4mm shafts. I'm having a custom one made right now and wonder if anyone is familiar with the characteristics of say a 31" shaft? I'm having Steve klapp make me an OG shaft and I want at least 30.5 but I'm thinking of just going for 31", with ivory ferrule if the weight makes a difference. And I like forward weighted cues so not worried about weight too much, but this way if I hate it I can at least have it cut down. Sorry if this has been asked a few times before I mainly use my phone on this site and search function dosent work on it

i m using shafts with overlength now since a longer time. My Josey Shafts already have been longer about half an inch (but too).
Now i m playing shaft with 2inches overlength- and i m happy (non-laminated but LD). Never will go back. Perfect for me. Big advantage for me personally.
 
I have a 30" OB Classic for my Viking. I personally think anything longer would not play well. If I was handy with wood I'd make a 16" shaft and a longer tapered butt. I'm sure when two-piece cues came out about 75 years ago the didn't give much thought to swerve, squirt, and throw. They made them for easy carrying. Johnnyt

Predator has been mine for years and have tried everything else on the market,
until I shot with the Jacoby Hybrid. This shaft is the only shaft in 20 years that
has made me put the Predators away.
It just seems to have everything in a LD shaft. Mine is 30'' on a 3x10 pin.

I thought the thread was , how much time have you played with a shaft.oops

31" - it was a so-called pro-taper and it looked like a dowel. It was not good. Maybe you just like that long taper and added flex. I prefer to have my normal taper and just leave more length in the joint area. That's the way the unfinished Predator's are and they usually play good (maximum 30").

What I like about long cues is you will ruin fewer shots stretching for them. I am not shy about taking out my extension, but long cues are better than extensions.

What mm was the shaft? And what didnt you like about it?
 
I have made several 31 and 32 inch shafts for local players.... they love them..... The only problem is that they don't fit in some cases,,,,,,

Guess I am the odd one as I love my old Schon SP-49 30" butt length, but, still use standard 29" length shafts, just easier to find.
