I need a piece of BR that is 24 inches in length or more and at least 1.5 x1.5. Not looking for the reclaimed stump wood. Just a nice straighter grained and nicely colored piece. I want to send it to prather to make a full splice blank from. I am keeping an eye out on ebay right now as there are a few pieces I wouldn't mind picking up but I don't need that much. Just one nice piece.

Anybody willing to part with some at a REASONABLE price please pm me here or email me at r.w.matthias@gmail.com. Thanks in advance. You guys are great! Rob.

I believe PDCUE still has a nice piece that he's had for 30 or 40 or so years but it's not going to be anywhere near a reasonable price. You may need to take out a 2nd mortgage and sell your son into slavery.

Would that be Paul Drexler? I'm not a cuemaker....yet, so I don't need to amass any woods. Just looking for a piece. I'm a huge fan of BR....it just does it for me. Of course it goes along with all my other expensive tastes LOL. Everything I like is because I like, not because it's expensive ;) What would you say I might aquire a fairly decent piece for of the requested size? Thanks. Rob.

I think that what Dick was trying to say was that no matter where you find it....a decent piece of Brazilian rosewood in a 24" length is gonna cost ya probably more than you realize. The cost may well be prohibitive.

When I say reasonable, I mean not severly overpriced. As in I wouldn't be looking to get "taken". Expensive is understandable, being taken advantage is not. I understand this stuff can be pricey. A gorgeous piece 36 inches long and wide/tall enough to make 3 full splice blanks sold for 3 bills and some change on ebay a short time ago. There is a 24 inch piece and 1.5 x 7 3/4 on ebay now. That should be enough to make 5 and I'm sure that will price out to be $200-$300. That's what I would call "reasonable". Hope this explains a little better.

By the way, here is the link for the one that sold previously:

Here is the one I'm looking at. If anybody is interested I would love to split costs:

Somebody's got to say it.

I'm not looking to take advantage of anybody - but this is a
forum of CUEMAKERS. The piece of wood you want such a good deal on,
is an automatic $1000 - $1500 cue sale.

If a guy was lucky enough to have a piece like that,
why would he ever want to sell it cheap?

You might try searching - there are people who have offered this wood
in the past.

IMHO - you should seriously consider buying the piece on fleabay
if you can establish it is Dalbergia Nigra, and not just Rosewood
that is FROM Brazil.

Any time the word 'slab' is used in the title or description, it's telling you that the wood was harvested from the stump of the tree that was felled many years previously. There's a huge difference in price.

The 2nd link you've provided is a decent looking pc but is still slab-wood.
The price is currently under $100 but my money says that by the time this auction ends, the bid will top $500.

Make sure your pants are pulled up and your belt is snug if you're going send any money to this guy who claims he is selling RARE BR on eBay. People like this seller give the place a bad name.

Send me some detailed pix and a price........

Rob, Call Mitch at Tropical Hardwoods of Latin America in Carlsbad, CA. He might still have some 60 year old Dalbergia Nigra. Be prepared to pay $200-250 per board foot or don't make the call. Rarely can you have champagne for the price of a beer!

Be wary of Ebay "Brazilian RW". Besides stumpwood, it could also be Dalbergia Spruceana which looks exactly like it.

It might be easier to find amazon rosewood. It will be a little less expensive, has pretty much the same tonal qualities as Brazilian, for guitars, and it is not endangered like Brazilian. Lets keep the number one oxygen producing place in the world around a little longer.

Would $750 be reasonable?

That's about right, he better hurry before Seller's remorse sets in, lol. When endangered, protected, coveted, and scarce are included in the description, "reasonable" is out of the question.

i really wish you hadn't posted this in the cue maker section since i am the high bidder right now and it's getting close.if i get it i will sell you a piece, but now that it is listed here at AZ,there is no way it will go for anything resembling a reasonable price.

i was reading the thread again and realized that i may have come off as an a**hole to 9ballbreak in my post.

i apologize to you,i was just getting excited about winning a nice big fat piece of brazilian and didn't want anyone to know about it until i made some nice fat brazilian cues with it.

I bet a ton of bidders were already on their sniping mode anyway.
