Wondering if anyone from SoCal can point me to where all the real pool rooms are in L.A. or around that area. I'm from NY but whenever I go LA to visit some friends, I try to look for a room but its not what I expect. Thanks in advance for info.

Hollywood Billiards
House of Billiards - Sherman Oaks
House of Billiards - Santa Monica

Hope that helps :)

For action - Hard Times in Bellflower and sometimes House of Billiards in Santa Monica

For a comfortable room with good equipment and good food - Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood and Danny K's in Orange

There are a few others but these are the ones to definitely visit.

a real real pool room is golden cue in el monte. doesn't get much more "real" than that. open 24 hours too, stay away from those hot dogs :)

Real; like how? HT type real? or some other kind of real? Hollywood billiards is real nice. Dk's is more sports bar. Is this like a Juarez kind of real?

Sounds different. Do you get hit up to play before you make it to the counter? What kind of joint is it? Is this a King Kong/Morro kind of place? Should you go with somebody who is known there? Or in a group?

Real can be unreal. What's this place like? It sounds - colorful??

Give us some clues.

Out of town visitors might need more info

Thanks

Hollywood Billiards is the nicest pool hall I've ever been in. Hardtimes is great for the players and action.

I haven't been to Golden Cue in a long time. Last time I was there, they had shifted from 24/7 to close at 6am and reopen a few hours later, but that was back in 2001. Don't know if that schedule still holds. Maybe someone can confirm that who has been there recently...

You'll see some light action @ Hotshots if you're in Southern Los Angeles County.

Sorry for the vague description of "real." I was trying to look for a room with nice ppl (poolplayers and not a public crowd) who are just enjoying their time shootin pool. A room with well-kept tables and cloth. Not a room where everyone is just trying to rob you.

DannyK's tables are all well maintained. I think there are twenty three nine footers and no coin ops.

Danny keeps out the vultures, but you can get small action if you want it.

Fifteen ball ring game every weekday afternoon. Danny calls it continuous rotation.

What location are you in when you're out here?

I'm gonna have to go to Golden Cue and check it out. Sounds like my kind of place..... at least that's the kind of place I've been looking for. Been to Hard Times in Bellflower, House Of Billiards (both Sherman Oaks & Santa Monica), and different places all over, but have really been wanting to find a nice quiet place where the tables are well maintained and the atmosphere of people just playing pool and enjoying the game.

Hardtimes Real as you get

. No smoking No drinking Just Pool, 3 Cushion or Golf
Open 11am to 1am.
605 south to 91 west exit Bellflower blvd. turn right.
Hardtimes 1 block on the left. Park and enter around back.;)

Depending on when you are going to be there, and what tournaments are going on.. There can be action to be had at Stix in Rancho Cucamonga, and also Shooters in Riverside as well.

mr lucky's billiards

it's in torrance. nice, clean place but not much action there.
they have (7) 9 ft brunswick gold crowns and (3) 7 ft diamond smart tables.

only downside is after 6 pm or so it feels more like a bar or nightclub than a pool hall

Friend lives in Monterey Park. So I'm assuming within a 45minute drive, otherwise she won't drive me there.

Hollywood is 14 miles. It's a modern sports bar and pool room, upscale. It's suitable to bring your girl in there too - nice bar and good food, waitresses, etc.

Hard Times in Bellflower is 18 miles - it's a very large classic pool room with nice equipment in the tournament room area, more for hard core pool players. It's in a little rougher area but they don't have many problems from what I understand.

Those are the two I'm familiar with not too far from you.

I can vouch for the room in Santa Monica. Very nice for pool or 3C. And when they cook a BLT, the whole room smells wonderful :-)
