What role does the tip play in reducing deflection? <snip> What's the best LD cue tip?
The thinner the tip, the less mass it has, and thus the less deflection the whole cue has.
The best LD tip is the one you like the feel of.
What role does the tip play in reducing deflection? Are some tips better than others? What's the best LD cue tip?
FYI, I have info on this topic here:What role does the tip play in reducing deflection? Are some tips better than others? What's the best LD cue tip?
Squirt (CB deflection) occurs with every shot, with or without a miscue. A miscue occurs only when the tip slips off the CB ball. This doesn't happen with a normal shot. For more info and demonstrations, see:Great info but I'm a bit confused about miscue and squirt. It seems that miscue is a form of squirt, maybe to a lesser or greater degree.

This is a question for Dr. Dave!!
I can tell you this however: when I was at the US Open sitting on the 1st row, I was surprised at how many of the pro's tips were thin, Immonen and Archer in particular.
