Low Deflection shafts, Are they worth it?

If you play better with a low deflection shaft it is worth it. I use a plain old maple shaft.

I should not have told you to stop doing anything, ENGLISH!. I allowed a brief moment of emotion to derail my rational thinking. That certainly is not beneficial to this discussion. It is almost never my intention to force my will upon anyone, yet I did just that. For that I apologize. I stand by everything else.

You last remark is inaccurate & hence wrong.

The objective truth is that just because an individual can be successful doing a task does not mean they are doing the task in the easiest manner.

A marksmen can use a rifle & hit a bulls eye using mechanical sights but it is less 'stressful' & less work, hence easier, for him to do it with a high powered scope. no they use a scope to decrease margin of error rick, so you can aim more ACCURATELY, even if there was no stress in the eyes they can only see so far, as if that was some kind of mytery....your comment makes no less sense than if you had said telescope and jupiiter

Why do you think they use high powered scopes? same reason some people need glasses rick, so what you want to see, you can see clearly....

Since you have made your last comment on this subject...

Adios & Vaya Con Dios.

so your not a hypocrite on the other thread but you can be one here?

how wide is a tip of english rick......

Careful! Efren is reportedly using an LD shaft after many decades. When he comes to New Orleans the end of next month I will give a report on his cue.

Several years ago, he played with a cue about 12.25 MM and it had a squirt factor that was as high as any cue I have ever shot with. When I wailed about the squirt, Alex P quipped, "Yeah, that is a bamboo piece of shit. But that is why he is the KING."

Hello JoeyA,
Efren doesn't need an ld shaft to play the game. He is just getting older....

Let me talk a little bit about the "real low deflection" which doesn't have to do with the shaft:

First of all, the player has to learn the visual alignments that send the ob to the pockets at three speeds (medium, slow, hard). Balls DON'T GO IN the same way at any speed. This has to do with the way you visually connect the cue ball to the object ball. The other thing you have to learn is how to adjust your stance every two diamonds. At "0-2", "2-4", "4-6", "6-8" you have to learn one left foot position for "normal" cuts and another one for back cuts. And don't listen to guys here who tell you that back cuts don't exist ant they are played the same way. The do exist and they should be played in a different way.

If you know all the above, you can start using sidespin.

A. ONE TIP OF SIDESPIN:
- You just pivot from ccb to one tip (half tip) and play all three speeds from there. Remember, your eyes play the three different speeds.

B. CB QUARTERS SIDESPIN:
- Same things for the speed but you also have to learn your initial cue tip placement
1. Medium (stun):
- Left spin: pivot from the left cb edge to left quarter
- Right spin: pivot from one tip to the right of ccb to the right quarter
2. Slow: pivot from ccb to left or right quarter
3. Hard: go straight to the quarters

C. CB EDGE SIDESPIN:
- You have to visually align "one category" thicker
- Left spin: pivot from left cb quarter to left cb edge
- Right spin: pivot from right cb quarter to right cb edge.

To do all the above you have to learn FOUR ANGLES of your STROKING ARM (ELBOW AND WRIST).

Takes years to master. I have learnt this practicing by myself. Nobody showed me anything. And I am very proud of what I have done.

Four months ago I posted on Dr Dave's thread about sidespin, and some members were LAUGHING AT ME. i won't mention NAMES. THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE. SOME OF THEM CALL THEMSELVES "INSTRUCTORS".

Thanks for reading and play well,

Panagiotis

This reminds me of a CJ Wiley post.

Been playing with an hxt shaft for the pasted 7 months. Don't really care for it. Have a new cue on the way , with a solid maple shaft. Are these expensive LD shafts really worth it ? (Ob/predator)Do pros mostly still use solid maple shafts or is it a 50/50 thing? I don't see how they can be that much of an advantage as long as your solid with a reg shaft. Yes/No?
A cue doesn't need to be expensive to be LD. For more info, see the LD shaft and shaft endmass resource pages.

LD shafts offer both advantages and disadvantages, depending on how well the natural pivot length matches your preferred bridge length. For people who use an LD shaft effectively, the shaft does offer clear advantages.

Regards,
Dave
