Magic Eraser shaft cleaning

Anybody use the magic eraser for cleaning their shafts??


I would like to know the pros/cons and technic that people use. I hate cleaning agents and it only seems to keep your shafts clean for a short while.

I love it. I keep a medium sized piece in my case for those extra dirty tables. I only actually do the whole wet/dry multi-step process maybe every 3 months. If you can get into the habit of keeping your hands and shaft semi-clean most of the time (wipe-downs, etc), you only need to actually clean the shaft like that, pretty rarely.
 
I have used a magic eraser several times. Always works well.
I wet one then wipe the shaft off till I'm satisfied. After it dries I take a burnisher and then rub it over the shaft until I get back the feel I like.
The magic eraser lifts the grain in the wood.
 
a *wet* magic eraser lifts the grain... if it's dry, it just cleans what it can get to. that said, a wet cleaning will result in a cleaner shaft - but you do have to deal with the raised grain and burnishing.

Yep, and for this reason I went back to turning my shafts in the homemade lathe and using #1500 or #2000 sandpaper for cleaning and then burnishing with a piece of leather. Takes very, very little wood off of the shaft and gets 'em slicker than owl sh*t.

Qclean, Q smooth(lightly), Qwax. . . With a glove or clean dry hands, a single apply should get you a couple of months.

Magic Eraser = wall cleaner in my house.

You can use denatured alcohol instead of water, and it will still raise the grain a little, but not nearly as much. Then, use Butcher's bowling alley wax daily.
 
Wal-Mart has a knockoff brand that works just as good as the name brand. I highly recommend saving several dollars and getting the Wal-Mart box.
 
i use it dry and them use a piece of leather to burnish after, always works great for me
 
Magic Eraser is a brand name of Proctor and Gamble. The stuff is melamie foam, and was available for years as speaker insulation before it was accidentally discovered to have cleaning properties.
 
Burnishing your shaft

I've found that using a "shot glass" from the bar works great for burnishing your shaft, makes it real slick and glossy looking, feels great!
