Making $$$$ off pool secrets/knowledge

You're nearly alone. From your post it sounds like you were looking for a gambling advantage over weaker/clueless players. I think you mostly still have that as few players do the internet or books or magazines. I suspect that most of the "secrets" you were sold have been public info for a long time. After all, the secret of pivoting has been in print for over 170 years -- if only you knew where to look.

Hi Bob,
I respect all you articles and knowledge of pool and dedication to the game. Truthfully the knowledge is out there, but bringing all the knowledge together and applying it to every possible shot on table is not there and not easily done. I read and watched all articles, and DVDs that are readily available for free thanks to Dr. Dave, Mike, you, Grady and many others, and true it benefited me with some shots, and i am a Mech engineer with PE, and almost about to get my second PE in electrical, but truthfully did not give me the missing link that i discovered by accident and put a huge smile on my face.

good to share

I think is is good for pool and AZB, for some fine players and instructors
to share and give a few pointers to the less skilled as my self. I do appreciate some good tips as what to do or not to do. No matter what I learn off AZB or any where else I will never be a pro or close. And at that
with all the help that is available do we have the skill to apply it and make use of it? JMO all take care, john

No, this one

Wrong. Completely.

If this were true, how did they learn? Or rather how did the 1st person learn? Here's a clue, it is possible for someone to learn something all on their own.

Ok, I don't agree with the OP about info. I think making knowledge more assessable raises everyone's game. But the things you said here just leads people to believe that only a select few that know how to play the game and their knowledge (secrets) was bestowed upon them by the pool Gods.

I mean seriously, only 4-5 players that are top speed? You gotta be kidding me. So which of the numerous pro's didn't make the list?

OK. I will be the first to try and get straight to the point. Are you referring to one of my last posts? because I did mention the Gods earlier.
It seems like you have it in for me for some reason. In that post I gave my perspective and insight to the posters and everybody that wants input on that topic.

I'll give you my honest opinion. Sometimes I don't want to and I have every right to it. But holding it against me and inferring that I'm BS people with the whole Gods are being selective stuff dosen't sound like you are in agreement with my ideas. I guess we'll just always argue.

I did say 4-5...who knows there may be 2...maybe 10. Who cares. Just take my posts for what its worth. I may not say things right but if you are open minded you may find some value from the crap in my post.

I was told there are about 4-5 guys in the country that plays top speed. These guys have dedicated their life to the game.

Your statement is not far fetched, the difficulty is how you measure "top speed", what do you base it on, winnings, flawless performance-how, high run, eys, memory, i know a kid have autism, but displays extraordinary photographic memory, he will look for 30 sec at a book page, close the book, and read the entire page from memory, At pool table he does not shoot pool, but once you break a rack of 8 ball, he looks at table for 30 sec, then we put the balls in the tray, he will place every ball one by one at the same spot it was after the break; would this guy be good at pool? i am sure he well if pool was his only thing, would he be one of top 5 maybe. For sure good referee!!

I don't post much but it is killing me.
People selling their secrets has ruined pool to me . That is what made pool great, players kept the info to themselves or very close friends. They would not sell their info no matter what.
I am just frustrated that I paid a lot of $$$ for PRIVATE lessons and thought I had something most players don't have.
Azbilliards ( free info) and players/instuctors looking to make that one big money deal is making me wanting to quit.
How do u all feel or am I alone here ?

Joe

Out of curiosity, were you told the info you were taught in this private lesson would not be shared?

What ever the number is, I'm not going to sit here and validate my post. It was an honest statement base on my awareness of people that play that speed and how much they care about openly giving away their life's work. I think this totally applies to the OP's opening post. If you don't understand it maybe you should sit back and think it out, you may find a reason not to come at me like I'm a jackass trying to piss people off.

If people give you bananas peel it and eat it...don't expect to be spoon fed and cry about it.

I am with you, i did not come at you, i think your statement is somewhat correct. i am asking how top speed is defined, how do we measure top speed players. Accustat has the score of 1000 in 9 ball game happen two or three times only.

Top speed is when you walk in to the pool room ready to gamble and you see a tough player sitting quietly on the stool waiting for a victim your balls shrink and you reflexively cover your bankroll and slip out the door.

Meanwhile another player comes in behind you looks at that guy and says you got the 8 get your ass up and play some.

And the other guy guy says seriously, I need the 7.

That's top speed.

Top speed are guys that get out 90% of the time that they are facing an open table. Guys who easily beat the 9 ball ghost. People who can run 100 balls at will, people who regularly run 10-15 balls in one pocket.

These are top notchers. And the best of them are able to hold it together under pressure and bring their A-game to the table almost all the time.

That's the real secret to pool. Nerves and Focus. A lot of "weaker" players get the cash because they are able to keep their nerves in check and focus on what they can do.

I am on the other side, I am a pretty good player who can't keep his nerves in check and so I blow a lot of opportunities to win games and sets because I can't stay in the moment and keep myself steady.

No matter what sport or activity you choose, nerves and focus is the biggest challenge there is.

ANYONE can learn to hit the cue ball in the right spot at the right speed at the right moment. ANYONE. There is no mechanical reason why any able bodied person is restricted from learning to play pool correctly.

The question is really in the head. Whether the player has the desire to learn, to truly learn, and the mental ability to bring it when it counts.

I don't play good enough to be able to say " Damn that guy plays top speed".

I was in the poolroom yesterday and someone talked about Greenleaf. He said " A buddy of mine ran around with greenleaf...he ran 11 holes in golf"

So of course I looked at the golf table pockets and I can only ask, "So was your buddy as good as Greenleaf?"

"HELL NO.....not even close"

It was a real table let me tell you. I couldn't rip a ball unless I hit it really clean. This monster ran 11 holes and wasn't considered a top player. Imagine that.
