Man does Earl SUCK

I'm sure when he won the US open 5 times and world championship 4 times...you must be proud of Earl....some people don't have satisfaction in life...he is a human being..he can't be perfect...one bad game doesn't mean he can't play anymore...

Make that 6 World 9 Ball Championships.

We don't say that George Washington was the 3rd President, or that Vermont is our 50th state. We don't say that Bill Shakesphere invented the car. We don't say 2 + 2 = 3. So we have to keep our pool facts straight, as they're every bit as important as the other aforementioned facts. :)

Other than that small blemish, you have a very nice & insightful post.
Good job. And you're exactly right.

I hate seeing posts like this.

See, the most common way we view professional pool now is in tournament format. That is to say, we are watching matches that are in the late stages that consists of players that are playing well.

What automatically gets filtered out are players shooting poorly. In fact, we don't even THINK about them when all is said and done. Nobody keeps track of all the great players that go two and out in the US Open. They only know what happened in the final 4 or 5 matches and that's NOT representative of what professional pool can be like.

What is remarkably interesting about the Mosconi Cup is that every match gets tons of focus and there are moments when you realize professionals don't always post .900 accustats. Some sets they stink. What makes them GREAT, what separates them from the second tier of talent is that usually, no matter how much they were stinking before, that can change in an instant. I'm not defending Earl nor do I really care if he has a good showing or not. I'm just saying, you don't count out players of his caliber so soon. They're champions for a reason.

Nice post from a guy that knows what he is talking about, to a guy who doesn't have a clue!

earl is a great player. at 1 time earl was 1 of the best players in the world! earl gives 110% everytime he goes out there! the problem is when earls 110% isnt good enough to win thats when he gets upset! i was there when shane pounded earl and i wish all of you could have been in that room after he got beat! he was the epitamy of polite and was grecious in defeat! had nothing bad to say about anyone! he evan explained how diffacult it was to go from the best to being average on tour! and if you would of been there you would of seen a champion player from the past! passing the torch to a young kid that looked up to him for 15 years! when he stated that he never thought his record of 5 open titles could be beat, and he turned his head and looked at shane and said,"but this kid he was born to play pool, and he might just win the next 5 in a row,and i hope he does" and that is why i say earl is still a champion!

A man who won 6 World 9 Ball Championships, 5 U.S. Open 9 Ball Championships, a World 8 Ball Championship and a plethera of other tournaments will never suck.

I was using the word 'suck' to show how ridiculous the original poster's statement was... I think Earl may be the greatest 9-ball player in history, and still has more than a few big wins to come.

I often wonder how many people that jump all over Earl have seen a lot of him before his current demons got to him... and I will really enjoy it when he gets back his game to near full throttle and makes all the nay-sayers eat their words.

And even if he never gets back to form... the words Earl Strickland and 'suck' are absurd when coupled.

Earl has missed every shot he has shot at. He dogged the lagg and every shot since. Europe leads 5 to 0 .. in a race to 6. Shane will be glad to shed Earl .. that's for sure.

go play him and see who sucks. if you cant be cool dont be.

CTYankee,
I knew YOU weren't saying that. I was ADDING to what you had said in regards to the original poster, but I should have made that clearer in my post.
Yours was a fine post. We knew what you meant and were saying. Although my wording didn't make it clear, I actually had your back in the post and was in agreement with you.

I'll say it one more time. EARL STRICKLAND IS THE GREATEST TOURNAMENT 9-BALL PLAYER I EVER SAW! He will NEVER suck in my book. True, he is not the player he once was, but tell me please, who else do we know that ever played Earls speed of 9-Ball. Fatboy hit the nail on the head when he spoke about the sounds it made when Earl is shooting. Very few players make that good a hit on the cue ball. He can still go thru the cue ball as good or better than anyone.

Sadly, self doubt has taken it's toll on Earl and his confidence. Right now, his own negativity is holding him back more than anything else. Like many others have said, if he can ever overcome his inner demons, he may some day play like the "old" Earl. By the way, He didn't play so bad today, especially in that critical final doubles match with Rodney. The USA needed that one big time.

Thanks Terry,
Sometimes my internet cognitive ability is a little slow. I appreciate your clarifying for me.

Man does Cashin suck

After the wpc I post congrats to Johnnny Archer for top 16 finnish. Some posters say just what is being said about Earl. No fire in his eyes has lost a step, looks tired and beaten. Johnny comes to Reno and blanks the first 4 opponents (never been done before). If we could have the fire that has burned in earls heart for 30 yrs-what a blessin that would be. Earl just expresses himself in a way that allows him to (blow it off -which is hard to do get mad, talk down to yourself, and then perform in a positive way, very difficult but earl can do it-he's like a boxer that uses adreniline to play better-in pool it's way tougher to use this method-and not reccomended). Earl's got his own back. Hey Cashin-you suck put your words where you mouth is-post your picture - dough boy- mark Its a team sport here buddy so you are dissrespecting the whole team and the team is USA. I sure hope you don't plan on living here. come out to play now

No one can ever take away the championships that Earl has won. He was one of the best 9-ball players this game EVER saw. The one thing I noticed now is that his last 2 or 3 strokes befoe he hits the QB wobble like he's not sure where he wants to hit it. If he hasn't had his eyes checked lately...he should. Most of the players are just leaving him 8 and 9 foot shots for safeties. He needs to play more safes on the long shots than he use to. I really think Earl would be someone that not playing for a few months would help. Johnnyt

Earl just can't effort to break his custom, it's not a Cue-tec, which have been made plenty off.

I'm guessing he meant Earl can't afford to break his custom, it's not his cuetech which they've made plenty of.
