Mark Bear Full Splice

There was a recent thread about people making hyped up descriptions when selling a cue and one of them was the best playing they ever owned.
I know Tom and though it may sound crazy, it is true. He had the Bear but always wanted a Hercek. He traded his Black and cash for the Hercek but can't get use to it. When at the PH he will let players try both cues and they all tell him that they like the Bear better and how sweet it is. The problem is none of them have any money so they aren't buyers. He will play with the Hercek, gets frustrated and pulls out the Bear.
He said that he does not want to have cues lying around that he does not play with so he is selling the Bear. I asked why don't you get rid of the Hercek and he said that likes the looks of it and everyone keeps bragging about how good they are so maybe he has to get use to playing with it. If he keeps the Bear he is knows that he will never get use to playing with the Hercek and it will end up stored in his case and never get used.

He just can't understand why he doesn't like playing with it as much as he does with the Bear.
I am not trying to answer for Tom but I can vouch for what he wrote.
In fact if you read the posts in the link above you will see the one that I made about playing with a Hercek. The one he owns is the one and only I have ever tried. I don't understand the hype about Hercek since to me his Bear is a much better playing cue for less than half the price his Hercek.

I kind of understand, but would disagree with the approach you are taking. I looked for a nice Hercek for quite a while and finally found one. I hit about 20 balls with it and found out that I didn't like that particular cue. Not that it didn't hit good, just not the hit I was looking for. I held it for about 2 weeks. Did the same thing with a high end Mottey as well. Just didn't hit like I wanted.
I have had at least 200 different cues over the past 10-15 years, and have tried to like several. I don't worry about that so much anymore, but sure wish that my favorite looking cues played like some others I have had. One of the best hitting cues I have ever owned was on older C-series McDermott. I just got over trying to like a specific cuemakers stuff if the hit is not what I like.

Actually, I fully understand. Including what may appear to be ad hype in the description may create more skepticism then anything else, but his point his valid.
I have 2 cues that I LOVE playing with. A PJ coco Blackcreek, and a traditional 4-pt Alex Brick. I want to play with one of my higher end cues, either one of several Level 5 Bricks, JW, Mottey, etc., but I always go back to these 2.
Having wrote that, however, I'm not about to sell off my best hitting cues in order to "force" myself to play with a more expensive, though inferior-hitting, cue, regardless of the maker, looks, cost or reputation.
I mean, come on! Take your pick: A Ford Escort in your favorite color, or a Maserati in your least fave color??

I have always loved that cue...want it everytime I see it and I am mad that I didn't ask Purdy to let me hold it. Just hold it
I just picked up a Bear cue - full splice simple cue. I really like the solid hit and feedback. I'm using an OB1 he refit for the butt (from 5/16x14 to radial) since that's what I've been used to but I'm waiting for league to end so I can really try his laminated shaft he sent. Great guy to talk to, down to earth, no b.s. He picked out a great piece of bacote for me and I'm glad I have no wrap so I can see more of the wood. I highly recommend his work.
For reference, I currently own a PFD (2), Schon (2) and would put this cue above the Schon and on level with the PFD although the two hit differently and have different materials.
Hopefully I can take pictures tomorrow. Good finish and he takes his time to do it right. I wish I heard more people talking about him.

The Mark Bear does play great. I have let some of the Top Players at the Pool Hall I play at try it after they have played with some of my other cue's and as soon as they pick it up, it's....yeah this is the one !!
I like my Hercek now, believe me it's been a road traveled. I did some work on the tip and it's made quite a difference. I like Full Splice Cue's.
My first one was a Craig Peterson Titlist, probably one of the first one's he made. Then two Rambows, one ordered from his shop in about 1964.
I traded a Bert Schrager Titlist ( the last one he ever made ) for the Bear,
I bought the Titlist from Raist for $ 2000.00, it was to light for me. Rather than change the cue from it's original configuration, I traded with Birk1 for the Bear.
Like the Book say's everytime I'm at the Pool Hall, the Bear would end up coming out.
Now, I'm only playing with the Hercek and enjoying it, although I did just buy that Tad from Rayjay, we'll now I have two cue's I like, One for Straight Pool and one for Nine Ball.
My impression of the Bear is that is has a nice solid hit, very well balanced, 18.1 oz with one shaft and 18.6 with a laminated shaft.
Birk1 did a really good discreption when he was selling it, search his post.
