Mark Wilson Has A New Job

Yay what great news!!!!........I tried to start a billiards program when i was in college but had to have faculty support (as if we would have needed it)........sadly they didn't give a dam, as it would have been great to play in the college championships.

A Mark Wilson Story

Hmm,

I heard that a Scottish guy was playing golf over in the U.S.A.So being a bit patriotic I thought I will have a £1 each way on him but what is his name again?I looked down the list and bet Mark Wilson as it sounded like a Scottish name and he came in for a place and I won a few quid.So I followed him until I found out that the guy I should have bet was called Martin Laird,so I started to follow him.Pretty soon my £1 each way bets were going astray and I had to quit betting them and when I didn't bet them they would get a place etc.:frown:

You can't win them all.:smile::D:thumbup:

oh...now that I have already paid my tuition for this year they come out with a scholarship program for pool....

Mr. Tea,
Actually Mark has been working on the book about EIGHTEEN YEARS now!!! He has devoted his entire adult life to playing then teaching pool; and has studied it at a level that very few players have even approached. This book is his legacy to the sport he so loves. I've had the privilege to be invoved with it, and can say it has been the most educational experience of my non-professional life.

The book will definitely be one-of-a-kind; there is NOTHING even remotely like it in the pool literature (I liken it to an advanced level textbook...except fun and inspirational if you are a pool fanatic). He is not in it for the money, and he does not care what critics may say. He is going to put out the information for those that want it; those that don't want to learn need not read it.

I would estimate that the book will be complete within the next few months; and hopefully available to the public shortly after. I am buying the very first copy...maybe you can get the second one:smile:.

Keeb...I did the same thing 20 years ago at Montana State...except the faculty supported it. First semester there were two sections; second semester there were 4; and the second year I had 8 sections. It was a full semester class, with written and practical midterms and finals. If you wanted to learn how to play, you really could. From that program I got an ACUI collegiate national champion, and a 2nd & 3rd place competitor. Sadly, now the program, while still in place, has no real structure, and is just a place to go kill an hour in the gameroom.

Congratulations to Mark, and good luck with the program at Lindenwood! He is a great teacher, and I'm sure the students will love working with him. Like many others, I am anxious to see Mark's new book!

I taught a course entitled "Pool, Billiards and Snooker" at UCLA in the late 70's. It was part of their Experimental College. We held classes in the student union building, which at the time had two snooker and two billiard tables, besides many pool tables. I had about a dozen students each semester until the union building was revamped and most of the tables removed. End of course! It was fun while it lasted. Somewhere I still have the school brochure that lists the course, with a description of the class and what I would be teaching.

Great News Mark!

Congratulations! Fantastic Mark. Hope this endeavore brings you long term success.

(We miss the Bull Pen and straight pool.)

Thanks for the detailed answer!
I'm definately buying the second copy, really looking forward to it!!!

Mark Wilson has been called the best pool teacher in captivity. There's no way to decide who's "best", but he dammed sure is among the best. I think everybody who is acquainted with his skills would agree with that. Best wishes on the new venture Mark and I'll take book #2!!
