It is about the players, not the captain. My opinion.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.
Team USA needs a captain and TBH it might as well be Mark Wilson as he seems to be OK and puts some actual effort in.
But
It is the players themselves that are the key reason for the better showing and for much of the improved chemistry.
Bergman and Sky both had great a great year leading up to this event, both of them improved tremendously due to being more active on the pro scene and putting in solid efforts throughout the year. They are both also very good friends with great chemistry due to their doubles matches their success this year is theirs, they are the ones that worked hard for it and it is them to look to for the achievements they had in the MC.
The other 3 guys? TBH SVB was his normal self, he was fairly emotional, not hugely supporting of his team mates when in doubles action, average at best in singles. Corey came out of a strong US Open performance and shot like poo. Dechaine was a barrel of nerves the whole time but he "did" try to be a part of the team which was nice to see, except in the SVB doubles grouping when Dechaine was ignored by his team mate as much as a person can be in a scotch doubles match.
Not sure I saw the huge Mark Wilson effect. I saw the Sky/Bergman effect, but those two players get the credit for that, they both spent the entire year working towards the success they had in this MC.
Marcus was actually more active and personable with his team than Mark during the whole event. Marcus cheered and supported his team, Mark sat in the stands with a stern look on his face like a teacher that has a wooden ruler across their lap ready to smack a kid across the knuckles if they spell a word wrong. Not sure that is what Team USA needed, the last thing Mike and Corey needed was more pressure.
