Matchroom Premier League Pool (PLP) (14-21 Feb2022), nineball, 9ft, Winner $20K

Totally agree, but there is also nothing more boring than watching top pros repeatedly shoot balls into rails, or watching top pros bunt balls around all day because they are too scared to try to run an open table. There has to be a balance.

The sweet spot is where the top pros, say 790+ Fargo, will still try to go offensive and get out on most open tables, and where they are going to be successful in said attempts a lot more often than not, but where they are going to have to work for it and there is little margin for error and they can't let their guard down or take it for granted or they will quickly be punished by the table. Misses should be neither rare nor common for a 790+, but somewhere in between.

I think 4.25" pockets are getting pretty close to that sweet spot for rotation games on say a diamond table. Much looser and the game is too easy at the top level, much tighter and it changes the game too much and you end up with bunt fests and too many balls shot into rails.

Agreed. I think one reason snooker is so popular is it found that sweet spot. Players still run centuries but misses are possible on almost any shot.

without having looked through this entire thread(I apologize), but when is this event supposed to end? I feel like it has been going on for two weeks and I just turn it off. Is it a giant round robin or something?

In a nutshell

My two cents for a future format. Right now in the second stage the players play 5 matches. It would only take 3 days for the first stage to be completed if the players played 5 matches instead of 3. Then eliminate stage 3 and play a top 5 man stepladder final ..... like bowling does ...... a 6 day tournament. Save the players time, money and reward the top players for their performances in the long grind.

Hi just getting caught up, sorry if already asked…. Do the points reset each elimination phase? This is on DAZN? Thanks.

So, are the finals seeded?
In a nutshell or should I say in a seed, I think final 4 in final stage are drawn. Also I believe seeding usually done if there are many players like 16 , 32 and there is disparity in skill level so that strong player can be matched against weaker player

This is invitational and I think all Matchroom invitationals (such as World Pool Masters) are expenses paid, minimum guaranteed prizemoney. MR just want players to focus on playing don't have to worry about expenses, in return play their best , do some promo content for MR

No.
Yes.

Fortunski, Yapp and Szolnoki will vie for remaining top 10 spot. Will be decided by last match on table 1 Fortunski v Szolnoki.
If Fortunski wins, he gets last top 10 spot. If he loses, it is down to tiebreaker -racks difference, racks won

Every year at Mosconi time, I argue with those who say "anything can happen in a race to five" on the basis that, while it's true, it's not true if you play enough races to five ... and so it has been at both the Mosconi Cup and the PLP event.

Each player has now played 15 races to five, and the four that stand at the top of the table (Filler, SVB, Ouschan and Shaw) have an average Fargo of about 825. This format and this equipment made sure the cream rose to the top.

This event is now moving into its business end and only the truly deserving will continue to advance. It should make for some great viewing, and we are sure to have a great champion.

Absolutely. There is a big difference between "(1) race to five", and "(15) races to five".

But I'm still surprised that Kaci finished so far down the list.

No reset. All points carried forward from stage 1 (16 players) to stage 2 (10 players) to stage 3 (6 players). That way, players have to play their best for every point in all stages cos tendency is if there is reset, the table leaders will take a nap and quality of their play drop while the bottom minnows can catch up. It is like long non stop race of 29 matches (15 matches in stage 1 +9 matches in stage 2+5 matches in stage 3). Only reset on last day final stage last 4 when it is just single elimination.
Where did you see this information about no reset? I think it makes sense, but all scores are removed from the live score site so I am not sure what's going on. Maybe I need an updated link.
