McCready, Matlock or Joe Kiley?

I always put Keith and David in a class by themselves, but Buddy belongs in there too. He could play as good as anyone on any table back in the 70's, 80's and well into the 90's.

David and Keith were a little more solid then Joey. Joey had to have his mixture right and he could break down if something got to him. Keith and David never broke down. When the pressure was on and the money was on the line these two guys only played better and better. When Keith got down and his opponent was not missing a ball, that's when he wanted to RAISE the bet! Nobody ever could out bet Keith. Or play better for serious money.

Keith was a once in a lifetime talent. And David played a different style of bar pool than anyone else. He just overpowered the table and the balls. Keith was more of a finesse player. David could force that cue ball to go anywhere he wanted. He played the bar table like he owned it. He knew exactly how to hit every shot to get good position for the next shot. Keith might get out of line once in a while (and make the shot anyway). David never got out of line! Not for hours and hours.

yea thats correct.played right handed and shot out his left eye.twisted his headso hie chin pointed to the left.strange but true.

Joey

Don't know if you remember the high rollin stake horse, Bill Lee, from the coast or not, Keith, but I was just told he has stayed in touch with Joey and would know his status. Problem is Bill Lee moved to TX, I believe and I don't have his phone # or even exactly where he is.

Hey $Bill, how ya doin ?? missed this post but just saw Freddy's bump. Gotta say after seein Joey in action many times HE WAS A MONSTER///as were the others as mentioned. Sooo exciting just to watch. As you remember Bill Lee is my dad but has not moved from the coast as I was just there over the 4th July. He doesn't keep up with the game or players any longer but sure has lots of memories of the action and the players he staked in his time... Joey bein oneof them not to mention Denny Searcy, George Brundt and of course our friend Al Orear (Ally Oop) who still lives over in Little Rock so I hear, But sadly the others have passed. All were good guys as well as players beyond ordinair, as is Keith and Madlock.
Thanx for memories, Howard Lee

I wasn't born til 1983 but I will go ahead and say this...even til this day if you see David Matlock hit just one single ball...you know. That big stroke and english he uses to perfection...I don't wanna even talk about how well he banks the balls. I'll just say in Olathe people loved telling Matlock stories, most were from guys he beat, like it's a right of passage to get whooped by Matlock. I would have loved to see him younger. In Olathe this past weekend, with all the great players and action in the building...not one single person was woofing at Dave Matlock..that's gotta say a little bit right?
