This was raffled to help in the funding of the MD Promotions New England Tour and the winner of the raffles response was one of the reasons I will never do it again. His response was, GREAT, I can flip it on eBay and make a few bucks. Congratulations to Squash. You cost the tour a sponsor.

Wow. To make a statement like that is pretty douchey (sorry for the language). I never understand why people buy into raffles for cues they have no intentions of keeping, unless its to sell and make a profit. But even still, don't advertise that! Its just bad form.

As for the cue, its awesome! Its just a shame it was one by a classless jerk.

I have always believed in supporting pool the best I can, I have given cues away for the past 14 years. So here's my solution for the future because it is the age of the Internet. Starting the season of 2010 and 2011, I will still be supporting pool but even better, I will start giving back to the people who have supported me and let their testament on the forums be my advertising.

Nice idea Mike. It gets a little old with every other tour calling and thinking we love giving away free cues.

Since the topic of cue warranties came up recently here, that is one cue I wouldn't warranty.

Mike being from NY I am familiar with your work and it is top notch stuff, we met one time and you did my shaft at Joss tour in Albany at the Golden Cue. Even a small job as a shaft you made sure to do it good, hope all is well with you and yours. Remember all you can do is try and if it does not work then keep it moving.

Thank you all, I've never really gone off on a forum so Please excuse and forgive me cause, I'm going off,

Something will be done, Starting next year as I said. Seeing I choose to support this industry unlike many others. Next year, I will start with people like No-sho, catscrade, pbat and people like that, that have supported me thru thick an thin, and give them a cue as a Thank you. It's my choice, my cues and it's long over due.
Examples
no-sho, A legitimate dealer of mine and a great guy
Catscradle, numerous cues from me.
Pbat, same thing.
Pavlos, gets a new cue every two years for life and he knows it. MY CHOICE
Tikkler will also be taken care of, for he was there when I needed a friend the most with unconditional friendship like I have never seen.
If I didn't mention names, it's a long list that will be on going. Just really tired of unappreciated BULLSHIT.

Just my thoughts::::::

Mike great idea, maybe other cuemakers will see this and it might just catch on with all the cuemakers. I see where you are coming from but what about us. I'm one of those indiviauls that buy into those raffles that are not tring to make a fast buck. But to get a cue that I might not be able to either afford or know enough about to invest in for my own personel collection. I still have every cue that I have won in a raffle. As of today the number is at two. My wife uses the BK2 and my son uses the other cue when he visits. I'm not rolling in money (and just let me hit the lottery and I'll have a great collection), but these raffles gives someone like myself a start and maybe even a chance to win a truely great cue from a great cuemaker like yourself that would not be flipped but added to my personel collection. I have tried to trade for one of your cues on this site, I just saw it to late and had nothing of interest for the other individual. I think it still up for sell. But that is another story. Sorry you really feel this way but I do understand where you are coming from.

Mike, sorry to hear about this....it's obviously gotten to you. I can certainly understand. Sometimes pool and poolplayers can be real bad about things having to do with 'respect' and not returning favors, and that's unfortunate. You're a fine cuemaker and a good man. Wishing you all the best, Sean

I understand and I am truly sorry, I love making cues and have always given cues away, almost 1/4 my production, That's quite a bit, whether it's been to tours, or charity's. I always believed in helping pool the best I could. I give to the tours under the stipulation that they add this and they get this, added bonus incentive, then the economy changes and instead of adding this, they don't, but they still get the incentive, what the fudge, We Cue makers don't get to give less because of the economy. Bad news for the Players and the Promoters, CUE MAKERS ARE NOT RICH. I really hated to start this thread, I like being quiet for the most part but I just couldn't stay quiet anymore. I specified before the cue was given, NOT FOR EBAY. I wanted someone to enjoy it like I enjoyed making it.

yea thats wrong, although i have a participated in raffles where i had no interest in the cue it was mostly because the money was going towards the pot or a donation to some charity thing, not because i wanted the cue. i have yet to win one but in a situation like that i doubt i would ebay the cue. i'd most likely just give it back and have it raffled off again if i decide not to keep it.

raffles in the raffle section are a different story tho.

That raffle winner is definitely a

. Let him sell it, since it should really be in the hands of someone that will trully appreciate it. Nice looking cue Mike

I'll second that, what a douchebag thing to say to the guy who made the cue. Thats a beaut, love the veneers. If I were the lucky winner it would have a permanent home in my case.

He didn't say it to me, he said it to the Promoter, If I was there, he would have got his money back and I would have re-raffled the cue, same tickets. Now there is a down side to this, I talked to the promoter 10 minutes ago, He's a good guy, who tries to offer a descent tour for New England, With every tour comes a certain amount of headaches. I have a commitment to some degree with him for the up coming season and we will work on that together, the only change is NO MORE RAFFLE CUES. It's something he wants to do for the players of his tour to show his sincerity, personally, I'd rather kick him in the nuts but we will compromise some as professionals do.

Mike, don't get me wrong. I agree with you, I'm just saying that a few bad apples (the guy wanting to flip the cue) destroys a great thing for the rest of us. I understand the cuemakers are not made of money and in most cases they are tring to help the sport that they love with their gifts to these tours. It is a great cue.

Mike

I remember seeing you give away an all pink ivory cue with ivory points at a Joss tour event. In fact, I have seen you give away more cues than any other maker I know. I have bought 7 of your cues over the years and I am impressed with your consistent dedication to pool and to your customers. The good things people say about you and the playability of your cues is right on in my opinion.

The reasons for buying a raffle ticket, for me, are often similar in nature to your generous donation...I buy a ticket to support the cause. I buy a ticket to feel good about doing right by an event or promoter who deserves support.

I may not want the cue or case or glove being given away but it is fun to play a roll in a really good thing. It is worth the price of an occasional ticket to feel like a winner or if not, to feel like a contributor. For some, it isn't about the cue, but the cause.

That being said, there is no call for disrespecting the cue builder or taking his generosity for granted, but appreciation from the winner is never guaranteed either. If I want to own another Webb cue, I'll buy one to cherish. If all I can afford is a raffle ticket, I may have greater needs than adding a fine cue to my collection.

What a Bull$hit thing to say.

It's too bad because your cue probably plays better than the one he's keeping.

Some people just don't get it at all.

Unfortunately we cant control the idiots!! I am like you Mike I support the Midwest 9 Ball Tour for years now. A lot of my cues get raffled off. I remember one in particular that got raffled off a couple years ago the owner walked up to me at the Derby and said that it was the best $20.00 he ever spent!! Still plays with it today! I dont like fleabay either!!!! Hopefully the person that is lucky enough to get it will appreciate what he gets. Unlike the idiot that won it!! I just try to give back to the industry that has given to me! I just hope the people that gets one of my cues through the tour will appreciate it!! If not I am still giving to the billiard industry. And that is what it is about for me.
