Meeting an AZBer - 1proscoe

The sleepy town of Atlanta was invaded by the infamous 1proscoe this past weekend. While he is a legend in his own mind, the locals soon brought him to his knees. :p Just kiddin', bud! :D

Seriously. I got to meet Ross and knock the balls around for a while this past Saturday. A little 9-ball, a 1-hole lesson and then we robbed the weekly 8-ball tournament. Wellllll, the first two are right. The tourny was a different story . . .

Ross drew "the Sheik" and I got "Elvis" in the first round. I think Ross got two chances at the table and got sent to the B side. I had my chances against "Mr. Presley", but how do you mantain your focus when your opponent is eating those fried banana sandwiches??? So, I headed to the one loss side to meet . . . . yup, 1proscoe.

It was a titanic battle, but Mr. 1-Hole managed to move some key balls with his bridge hand at a critical juncture of the case game, then claim indignant innocence and cheat me of my rightful win. We won't talk about his next match against a long-time Atlanta pool fixture. Suffice to say, we were happily drinking beer shortly after. :p

1pRoswell then decided to challenge another long-time Atlanta player to a little 1 pocket action. It was fun to watch two people who know how to play the game. The primary thing I saw??? I don't have the moves for 1-hole.

Thanks, 1p-man, for a great Saturday getaway! My good fortune to meet outstanding members of the AZB community continues . . .

Don't feel bad, Scott. Vagabond took a little trip to El Paso last weekend and we played 4 sets of one pocket... I had never real played it much at all and believe me, it shows! I came close to winning one set, but the others were disgraceful. I learned a lot, which is what the experience was for. I'm a very fast straight pool and 9 ball player. I play best when I am pocketing balls in a good rhythm. I made some good shots but I lack knowledge in the area of good one pocket strategy. Vagabond did teach me some things and I have been working on them. I plan on getting with Danny Harriman soon and learning more about the game. Glad to hear that you guys had a great time.

I met Ross at a Fast Eddie's event in Austin last year. He is a pretty cool guy and a pretty straight shooter as well.

That's funny. Sounds like you guys had a good time. That's why I play. Good job AZ!

Hey Scott - I had a blast as well. We were there from about noon until 9pm, played some 9ball for several hours, then an 8b tournament for a bit... (btw, I only beat Scott in a race to 2 and it was fair and sqaure.. :))

After that, my mouth started running to some locals (I know, you're surprised to hear that) and baited a guy into some 1p action. Let's just say that his response to my inquiry if he would like to participate in a one pocket game was, "You know what, f**k you! Let's play!!" :p (true story)

Good times were had by all, MANY beers were consumed over that 9 hour span, but it will definitely be done again if I have to come to the dirty dirty again....

And the Hercek will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine..... Scott must love me because it is the cue that I used for 90% of the day, including the closing action with locals... I even made love to it when he wasn't looking...

Scott,
Well, at least he didn't charge you for his special shaft treatment....

Hey, I had to leave my mark somehow... That is the best hitting cue I have ever fondled in my life!!

First of all, did you win the 1 pocket game, and second of all, DO NOT leave your mark when I play you!!!

Always delighted to hear about two AZBers hooking up for some quality time over the glorious green felt. Thanks for sharing the story.

The Pool Room in Marietta.

Linda, just don't let 1pRoscoe use your cue.

Thanks, sjm. I hope to meet you some day, also.

Ross, sorry to miss hooking up with you - the first few weekends here were spent wandering around aimlessly. Well, now that you've been where I used to play (Pool Room in Marietta), you can tell me where an equivalent is here in Seattle.

I'm curious who "Elvis" was.

Finally got to play a little - last week at Jillian's. Great tables, great beer, no-transfer bus! Let me know when you are going to be around here and you can give me a beating.
