Meucci wow

A guy I work with was looking for a new cue and I told him that I would sell him one of mine since I have a new one on the way. I suppose another guy at work heard about this and brought in a cue his son wanted to sell.

He tells me to come look at this cue. I look at it and I am amazed at how terrible it looks. The points are bleeding into the forearm, the inlays look like they were drilled 3x deeper than the dot that went in it, the finish was cracked at every joint, the finish was bubbled and even the Meucci name was raised up over the finish.

The guy said his son paid $500 for this hunk of crap and actually wanted $250 for the cue, a $20 soft case and a Viper cue. I really didn't want to tell him that I wouldn't sell this junk to anyone with a straight face, but I had to tell him that it was basically worthless.

I remember when Meucci had great cues. If you were going to buy a production cue during the 80's or first few years of the 90's you would either get a Meucci or McDermott.....with most ppl I know opting for a Meucci.

I can't imagine working for them and letting a cue that looked like that go.

cue

you know the lold saying [one mans junk is anothers man treasure] lo lo :confused::confused:

I think you forgot about Joss. I was looking for a new cue around the late 80's early 90's and I checked out everything that I could find. Unfortunately that included all the production stuff. I ended up with a Joss because they seemed to be making a better product than McDermott. In terms of Meucci, I don't think they ever made a good pruduct. They're great if you have no strock and need to apply english. Lol.

Shooting with a Meucci is like shooting with a wet rag!! I would actually recommend either a McDermott or a Joss all day long over a Meucci.

Quite a few years ago 10 to 15 I decided to start buying a few production cues. I bought a McDermott, Predator , Helmstetter,Joss, Viking,Schon and a few others. I decided that a collection like mine needed a Meucci even though I did not really like them. I started shopping and found a simple 4 point with veneers that had a few inlays and a Grey stained Birdseye forearm. I rarely play this cue but it is a great looking cue. It is the cue that people comment the most on when they see it in the rack. I have never had any issues with the cue as far as quality but I have seen many other Meucci's that could be used as tomato stakes.

Stories like this have been told for many years...The Meucci legacy never ends.

The only stick I ever gave away was a Meucci. It was worth what he paid for it!

Well I'll tell ya. Last time I bought a cue stick was nearly 20 yrs ago. It happened to be a meucci and I bought it wholesale because at that time I sold them.

Since then I've purchased 50 dollar replacement shafts on ebay or elsewhere for the thing.

I've purchased what I think is a Dufferin or Canada or something sneaky pete for 20 bucks, that has a 5/16s X 18 thread and the shafts interchange.

I play pretty good for an old fart. Granted I only play a few hours a week but I've had my share of 40 and 50 ball runs in straight pool with these things. I've even hit 78 one day when ( for some reason) the rest of life's worries were not on my mind). And with a junk cue.

Good thing for the pro's I don't buy one of those 2 zillion dollar cues with no deflection, low rejection and everything else huh? I'd sure to be running hundreds all the time then. ... geez ....

IMO all this cue stick hype is a bunch of bull$heet. Give me a 12.5mm shaft with a long taper, not made of balsa wood, that is straight.

And Oh my God, I even use a Le Pro tip. Can you believe it? No layered tip soaked in goat milk and toasted in a brick oven or anything. :scratchhead:

All you ever hear nowdays is how their products and customer service have gone to poop.

Oh, well, that may well be true. Dunno ... only thing I know for sure is unless I'm going into cue collecting, (and I tend to think stamps or gold may be better) :) I'd never in my wildest dreams pay more than 150 or so for a cue stick regardless.

So for the collectors, I say enjoy, everyone needs an interest, but to hit a pool ball into a pocket .... I say stay away from the 6 piece cues with the chrome washers. :)

When I bought the first one I have owned, out of Bob's first catalog, it was a damn good cue for that time period. I liked the long taper of the shaft and everybody who played with it liked it. The few I had after that, off and on over the years were never as good. I even had one of the very limited {for that time} Jimmy Rempe models that are now worth over $1000. I think they made 600 or less because the butt and shaft were both longer and they had to change production equipment to make them and later change back again for regular models.
The last one I had was with a Black Dot shaft to compare it to predator. No comparison.

I had a Meucci Original in 1986, bought it from Mueller's for $89.00, shot with it for a few years, good cue at the time until I discovered Joss and liked the hit better.

I think their are some good older Meucci's to be had, I would stay away from the new stuff.

News Flash !!!

Meucci still makes really nice looking and playing cues !!
I go into pool rooms all the time and Hello !! The guys still have them
and there not going anywhere.I have noticed that most of the Meucci bashers usually get beat with a guy playing with a meucci !! LOL

wake Up ! or get beat by another Meucci cue usuer...LOL

Know how to make a Moochie double in value?
Tape a $20 bill to it.:killingme:

Seriously....and I've said it before...I can take their sneaky pete and change the pin to a big pin. Then change the plastic hollow ferrule & add a premium tip....then it'll play about as well as anything you can buy. If you tried one that I had tricked up...you'd be shocked how well it plays. :)

If I bashed on a cue simply because the owner of that particular cue beat me, I would have nobody and nothing to play with!! Every cue out there would be a piece of crap!!

If you've played this game long enough, you've been beat by player's using many different cues. It's the player that beats you, not the cue!! If it were the cue, then I could lay mine down on the table next to your Meucci and let them duke it out on their own. Just me thinking out loud here, but I don't think that they'll move an inch!!

I have a couple from back in the 80's and early 90's that are real nice. I bought one when I was just starting to play this wonderful game, and had no stroke. With that cue, I didn't need one. It was the best cue to have for anyone without a stroke!! Once I moved on I could see exactly how much stroke I didn't have because my next cue was a Joss. That is the cue that helped me develop a stroke. Since, I have progressed onto better cues.

It's great that you love your Meucci. There aren't that many people willing to admit to it. I'm sure you're a great player, and no matter what cue you play with, you would do well. If we ever have the opportunity to meet each other, I would love to get bashed by a Meucci cue user. It's just simply been so long since I saw anyone playing with one...LOL

A lot of big titles have been won with Meucci's.

Earl's first big win against the MIZ was with a Meucci.

I've seen Nick Varner play some great pool when he was a player rep for Meucci.

Buddy Hall used one....Sigel....Reyes (yes, Reyes)...lots of those guys. Shoot, Shannon Daulton won a Derby City 9 Ball event not too many years ago with a Meucci cue!

Too bad I hear such bad things about their quality now. I always liked his designs.

No 2 cues are the same. Double that for production cues. The best playing cue I have ever had in my hands was a '03 Meucci, the thing was fabulous. A friend of mine had purchased it and most agreed that it played wonderfully.

I'd kill to have a cue that plays as good as it did.

Problem was... craftsmanship sucked balls. the over-sized, and too deep, bore for the weight bolt combined with the very thick butt sleeve left very little material between the sleeve and the lower end of the handle. It snapped in two during a tournament in Kansas City, with absolutely NO abuse.

I have since heard similar stories and would not recommend Meucci to anyone.

Back in the day Meucci was sponsoring quite a few players, and a lot of your top pro's were playing with them. But when you're as good as the pro's are, as long as they have a straight stick with a good tip, they can shoot with anything!!

Do you really think that Earl would have played with a Cuetec if he wasn't being paid a lot of money to do so?

There has been a huge increase on cue manufacturer's since the 80's. I think you would be hard pressed to find me a current pro player that shoots and wins with a Meucci. There's just far superior cues now. JMHO
