I like how Mike is able to put a fresh spin on classic design elements. His work is super clean and crisply detailed. I'm looking forward to seeing more of his creations and also the ones he does with Tim. Mike is easily one of the better cuemakers working today.

wouldn't a phenolic collar be considered a ring?

Phenolic Colars are threaded on elements over wood. Metal Rings are actually just washers that are glued in place, and are subject to expansion and contraction, that is different to the wood and Phenolic elements. Every cuemaker will tell you that rings can be a pain to mount correctlly without an expansion problem(cracking in clearcoat). Many cue buyers like them,so cuemakers do use the metal washers do to demand. JP

My Cochran

I am a big fan of Mike and Tims work. They are two of the nicest people I have met in the business. I have a simple 4 point Cochran that was Mike's personal player before he generously let it come to live with me The veneers are black/black/blue/violet, and the joint is engraved. It is the only joint that has been done this way and Mike told me personally that he will not make another cue this plain. Funny thing is that anyone who sees it thinks it is anything but plain.

Mike keeps impressing me more and more. My plans were to buy anther J. White but now I am rethinking the whole situation due to the work you guys have displayed from Mike.

The Two Cochran cues pictures were takenon a diagonal for a reason. Edited diagonal pictures distort. Or at least I haven't figured it out yet!
I wanted crystal clear and unedited pictures.
Once you pick one up they are hard to put down.

Nick, I have to agree with you on that. I have played with several different customs, but none have had the feel of my Cochran (Except for the TS ).

Oh, btw, David got the wrapless TS back a couple of days ago.He bought it back on ebay. He wants me to bring my camera to Grady's this weekend to take some pictures of the MC,TS and the TS J/B.

Marcus almost talked me out of it the other day. I gave him a price then in the same breath said but I really don't want to sell that thing. If you call me back I will probably tell you, Marcus no way I would have told you a price that high!
We laughed. Marcus and Chris-Bogie love this cue. If I ever sell it I would probably like to see either of those two get it. I have to say I consider them my friends.
Thanks all and J.P. is the man if you want a Mike Cochran cue and don't want to wait a year! I will be suprised if Mike even makes 10 cues this year. Mine are at the lower end of Mike's work. The 8 pointer would be somewhere around $2700.00 if you can talk him into doing anything that plain. Kind of funny, plain 8 pointer. Just doesn't sound right. The box cue would be a little over 4K. Well maybe a little more.
The Scruggs would be pricie also. I don't see it happening again. Hate to guess on that one so I won't but it may just be the priciest cue of all. I just love the veneers and ivory blocked bushka rings above and below. All three cues are very special examples of master cue making.

The bushka rings in the signed Tim Scruggs cue are non ivory material. Because of this the cue would only be slightly less than 3.5K new.
All the inlays are of course ivory.

Scruggs or Cochran. How can you go wrong. And as far as what kind of guys they are. You cant find any better. Great guys and even better cuemakers. These are my 3 cues and the Cochran is my player. Thanks Mike.

The phenolic collar under the ivory or ss collars are most likely not threaded.
Most phenolics I know are not threaded on b/c they come with 5/8 and that the brass or nickle rings also have 5/8 ID.
To thread one, you'd have to make the wood tenon oversized ( around .650 ) or custom order one with 9/16 id.

A lot of that falls into marketing, and simply the number of cues produced. Tim and Mike have been quite prolific these last 20+ years due to their hard work. It "is" what is is.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that an ivory/veneered/ box Scruggs will be coming my way very soon. If I'm fortunate enough that this happens, I will post photos. It is truly one of the cues of my dreams.

Mikes joint

Joey in Cali stick to what you know. The joint is not sleeved. I know because I have the same joint in ivory and steel on my Cochran cues and I do know exactly how they are constructed.
The pin is set in Kryptonyte! This joint is a monster. My player was the first in the contental U.S. to have this joint. One of my friends just begged my ivory joint Cochran away from me today.
Guess I'll have to order another!
Another thing is Timi's and Mike's cues are built for a lifetime of pleasure and enjoyment. I have to admit I still only play with the Cochran.
Man there have to be alot of people that wished they went long on the how long Nick will keep his 8 point Cochran as his player pool!!.
Anyone bet over 2 years? Dought it! June will be 2 years.
Great cues! My signed Scruggs tempts me every day!

What a pleasure it is just to see these beautiful cues,Iwas talking with Potter about buying the remaining Libra cues in his personal collection earlier today and he told me that it was his opinion that Scruggs(Cochran)is and has been the finest cuemaker in the business for years.
That is pretty strong for one great cue maker to say about another one.
