Midnight Bump with a story

Reminded of Mike's generosity by Bryan.

Headed up to the shop one Saturday morning with a few cues I had picked up on here. I like Talisman mediums so I though it would be best to get Mike to put 'em on for me. I handed him 5 or 6 shafts and the tips. He looked at them and scowled "why do you got to go and put these damn Japanese things on an American cue". He patiently cut off the old tips, glued up the new, turned them all down nice and pretty, all the while chiding me for my heresy. At one point he said "next thing you'll ask is for me to fit a Predator for you" (I HAD thought of that, but then thouht better of it).

About 45 minutes to an hour later he's all done. I told him I also wanted to pick up some TS logo joint protectors while I was there, so he went into the cabinet and grabbed a handful and put them in my hand. I asked "What do I owe you Mike". His reply - "Aww, nothing." Couldn't get him to take a thing - not coffed, not lunch - just nothing.

That's just the kind of guy Mike was.

I'll miss him.

A sad time indeed.

Mike was a true gentleman and always very fun to talk and laugh with. Like many others I will surley miss this man. I hope that Tim, Mike's family and friends can cherish the good memories that were created by this wonderful soul.

Here is a picture of us at the shop. I will forever remember his smile and easy conversation. Mike may you rest in peace.

I did not know Mike, but, I knew of him and his reputation.... I had a TS cue that Mike was the main collaborator on, it was drop dead spectacular... A really good man I am told..... Bump to the top.........

A quick update for those who were keeping tabs on this thread.....

Mike's service was today in Elkridge, Maryland. It was a beautiful service, and I was pleased to see such a wonderful turn-out of folks who came to celebrate Mike's life. It was instantly obvious how much Mike was loved.

There was a running slideshow of pictures of Mike, both by himself and with family/friends. Multiple flower arrangements on either side of the center that bordered poster boards with more pictures of Mike around his loved ones. His Notre Dame hat was proudly on display, as well as his Notre Dame logo'd case.

I ran into quite a few folks I knew...and met quite a few more. It was as lovely as an event like that could be. I tip my hat to the funeral home that put it all together. They did a wonderful job.

Just wanted to let you all know that Mike's service was exceptional, and I think we can all agree that he deserved nothing less, and will be missed.

Rest in peace, Mr. Cochran.

Mark
