Mike Johnson - Jensen Cues needs some prayers

Hello all, I am Tracye, Mikes daughter. My mom, June, and I overwhelmed by the outreach and outpouring of prayers, love and support. Thank you all very much and please keep the prayers coming, they are working. After several days and many times of touch and go, the doctors were able to get his lungs to expand a little more with the ventilator and paralytic medications. With 10 broken ribs you can imagine the pain if they had not paralyzed him and sedated him. His lungs have finally started to respond, therefore allowing his blood to have more oxygen. They took him off the paralytic meds yesterday and now we just have to keep his lungs working. He is still extremely sedated and very critical. But we made it over that one hurdle. He did have to get 2 more units of blood this morning (that makes 8 total so far). He is responsive to pain when the nurses have to change his bandages, but other than that they keep him pretty sedated. We would sure love to see him open his eyes or squeeze our hand but we are just not there yet. Again, there is no brain or neurological injuries, he is just heavily sedated. So we take comfort in knowing he is not in excruciating pain. We are hoping to turn the corner on all of this soon and be on top of it all, but right now he is fighting several battles on many fronts. Thank you all again for the prayers and thoughts.

God's time and our time is not the same. We must be patient. Each small step towards recovery should be taken thoughtfully, and deliberately.:smile::smile::smile:

Hello All,

This is Tracye (Mike's daughter) and June (Mikes wife).

Friday, March 18 update:
Mike had a pretty rough morning. Mike is still having lung function problems from all the trauma to his lungs. The most important focus is to get his lungs to send oxygen into his blood. The docs are starting to try to get the swelling all over his body down. Haven't had a lot of success with it yet. His oxygen levels dropped a little bit today, so they bumped the vent back up to 80, but by 5pm it was back down to 50. We spoke to the trauma doctor this morning and he advised that with Mikes lungs still struggling to work and having had a tube (ET Tube) in his throat for this long, they want to do a tracheotomy on Monday. Just out of concern for his throat and vocal cords. They don't like to leave the ET tube in any longer than necessary. They also want to do a PEG tube (feeding tube). Mike really fights the ET tube (in his throat) so we are hoping the trach will be easier and give his throat a chance to heal. The wound care team came today and set up the wound vacc on his stump. He is pretty responsive to pain but not yet following commands. The nurse did say he opened his eyes for a second during dressing changes. None of us have seen his eyes open or had any response from him since last Wednesday. Like I said its mostly just response to pain. Mom is feeling a little under the weather. I sure its a stressed immune system, just hope we can hold any colds etc at bay.
Thank you for the continued prayers and phone calls.

Hello All,
Mikes daughter, Tracye here. I just wanted to give an update and share a bit of good news. I can't tell you all how much it means to us for all your care and concern for Mike. Thank you so much!

March 22 update:
Yesterday Mike had a tracheostomy done so that they could remove the breathing tube from his throat, they also put in a PEG feeding tube into his stomach. Let me just say what a difference a day makes. He is alert today and wakes up when you speak to him. Both eyes are open and he is following commands. Thru this whole ordeal, our biggest struggle has been getting better oxygen levels to his bloodstream. Before today, anytime they had to lay him flat to turn him, etc, his oxygen levels would plummet. But not today! They did not drop below 92% at all today, even while flat. This is such a huge huge step! He is still getting sedation medication and on Morphine so I'm sure he is groggy, disoriented and confused. He gets easily agitated or frustrated. His team is aggressively working with him throughout the day then giving him breaks to relax and rest. When I visited him earlier I only stayed 5 minutes because he was so anxious, then I would step out of the room and he would relax and rest. So visits are still very limited but thats ok, we are making progress! Mom is still fighting bronchitis and coughing her head off. She sleeps off an on but is pretty tired. She's having to sleep in her recliner to get rest, otherwise the coughing is nonstop. Thank you all for the continued prayers, good thoughts and support. It's working!!! Please keep them up.

This is great news. So glad to hear he is on the mend, in no small way due to your and your families care.

Great news! As long as Mike's ornery thats a good sign.. Gotta be his anticipation of a cue left in the shop he's yet to turn down..

Thank you for the updates and while it's tough to read about all the different things he's going through right now, it's a great relief to hear that things are headed in a positive direction. We're all praying for you Mike, you got this!

That's really good news.

Don't forget to thank God for answering the Prayers.

I just did & asked for His continued participation & to get your Mom well, as your Dad is going to need her.

Take care of yourself, too.

In my Prayers.

Very happy to hear that good news. That is a tremendous step forward. Don't know your Dad personally but know several people who have known him from way back and the respect they have for him speaks volumes. Having a loving family to support one during times like these is a difference maker.

Wishing the best for Mike Johnson and family.

Tracye,

Glad to hear this slight improvement. Looking forward to hearing more good news.

When you think your dad is doing well enough to tease him, tell him that JoeyA is now ready to play him some 9 ball, even-up. (It's a pool room thing)

Have been out of the country for a few weeks and am just catching up. So sad to read about Mike. Had a cue made by him and then met him at the Derby. A really nice person and great cue maker.

Am praying for him and his family. It has to be really tough on everyone.

Thanks for keeping us informed with the updates.
