Although I appreciate what every room owner, member of the ratings commitee and tournament director has done for the az pool scene,I have a problem with this .

Ok somebody got hustled in a calcutta. Thats the nature of the Biz. We are all in it for the money. It happens. Some guy plays under the radar and they get lucky and win. Oh well thats what he was rated.(dont get me started on the ratiings)The guy layed down, thats called hustling! I bet if it was Stevie Moore everybody would have been like WOW what a good move.

If you really think about it, if a tournament entry is all you really loss then you didnt lose much to learn a lesson. This game is for the money. Its just the way it is. The only reason I asked Jason for the picture is to make sure I dont get hustled!!!!

Jason rock on with tourneys.

Steve you make me proud..lol

Pudding in a bag .....Thats just too funny

That's a hell of a point and I agree with you 100%. If it was a more known player or some more highly touted hustler people might feel a little honored to be hustled by them. I respect what he did, he worked the system and made some cash. I respect him being on the road and chopping a guy up for the extra bux in a calcutta...crap happens and he was managing his handicap lol! On the road you need to make every penny you can to stay afloat so an extra $70 might be an extra night in town to play/rob an extra tournament so I get it.

I say don't kick him out....tee it up and kick his ass! Doesn't sound like the good players are scared to play him...go find him and make a game where he bets it all. IF all you guys are really outraged you guys would/should be trying to keep as much of that money in town as possible...go gamble it back and then run the tourney again with all that as added money! Oh wait that would never happen either would it. Represent for the bird city!!!

Mikey you don't get it. This guy is probably no better then a b+ player. I can think of over 150 guys that would love to take a swing at pudding. He doesn't want to get in the box and mix it up. He just wants to steal from the beginning players. These players are like your average 2's and 3's in APA. These are the lowest hanicap rated player tournies Arizona has to offer. Many of these players haven't even been playing a year. There's not that many of them. That is why I think what this guy did was BS.

I know that there is no code of ethics in gambling. You hustle who you can when you can. Bottem line is this guy hustled beginnining players because this guy could. No one knows his true speed here because he is not ready to show it.

Roger, you did nothing wrong at all, your a good decent guy, he just was looking to get over and did. It could always happen to anyone, if a guy wants to play on the lemon then it can be done with ease, make a ball here and there, no safes and no position, get a low rating and play a few cheap tournies and when a big one comes along snap it off.

Well said! I hope my comments didn't come off as personal attack on Roger, I intended them to mean the system had been used by a user.

Laying down to hustle a guy later is one thing but laying down to play in a six and under tournament is just plain lame! I could see if this guy was not showing his full speed so that he could break some guy for a few bucks. That's the fault of the person being hustled he should have seen that the guy was stalling. But when you fool one person into rating you low and then you make the whole tournament suffer and on top of taht lay down in the finals to make more $ off the calcutta. I'm sorry but that's a bunch of bullshenanigans!!!!!

Then, you guys should hate Rodney Morris. When he came through, I was spotting him! Then, he won the US Open. He won every weekly tourney around here four nights in a row. Hate him? He won as a 6. We go 2-9.

Why in the world is this post soooo hard on the hustler when people almost always aspire to hustle? Next time someone offers you the 7 and you know you dont need it...tell them no and play even. Imagine that. We all talk about how we get overspotted and run over someone, he did it tournament style to minimize his risk I dont blame him. He probably came with $50 and left with a grand, hows that for return on investment. Give the guy a break, he won the cash, now you guys know the deal(start high).

I'll give an example, about two years back I went to a tourney at Brass Tap in NC. Lil Pee Wee told me straight up, he dont know me I gotta start as a 10. Point of reference players like Sam Monday and Mike Fuller are 11's in this handicap system. I got tortured for months before he said I should be a 7 and that's where i played until I left. Towards the end I won 2 tourneys straight and ppl complained...Lil Pee Wee said you guys didnt complain when he spent about $300 on entry fees losing first round in single elimination tourneys. Thats how it should be!!! Lesson learned, knowledge earned. Cheers

Your honesty never ceases to amaze me.

Then, how do you know he's no better than a B +? Careful, he might bust 148 of your 150. Nothing is better than making eveyone think you're afraid to play "good" players and will only try the shrimp. Then, the talk gets loud, and one of the "good" players fu#@s up and offers something, and ol' puddin' lays the pipe to him. It could happen. I saw it on Sixty Minutes.

yeah crawfish, I know your right. it will be interesting to see if he stays around to play anyone for some more ice cream money.

I am the guy that bought the garbage sack full of pudding in the Calcutta. That is freaking hilarious Jason!

I would like to say to Roger Long that I’m not mad at you at all in the slightest. I don’t think that this is your fault at all. You have been nothing but super nice to me and my wife.

Steve, I do think that you probably would have won this tournament if these guys weren’t there. You are definitely one of the best 6’s in my eyes. That is the reason why I bid you so high in the Calcutta. Trust me bud, this guy was definitely hiding his ability.

I guess the person that isn’t getting much blame for this is Don Imus (I mean Harry Bliss). He looks just like Don. Here is a guy who plays pool in AZ and doesn’t win in any tournaments; gets pissed and tries to bring a ringer in to rob all his friends in AZ. This guy needs to get some of the blame. I don’t want to say too many bad things about Harry because he looks like the type of guy that would kill me for a cheeseburger.

Here is another picture of Mike so that you can see all the pudding. He’s one sexy son of a gun. I don’t think he has spent any time in a pool hall eating fried food. Do you guys?

I just don't think i can look at pudding the same anymore*gags*

I have to say. If being underranked is frowned upon this bad, how can you guys lift up people that lay down for a month to take off $20,000? Hell, I'd better not mention some of the lay down stuff we have done in the past.

MANY of the leagues and pool rooms are filled with sandbaggers. This person apparently beat the system. Many league players beat the system EVERY DAY and YEAR in local and national tournaments. It is the system that needs refining.

Laying down a lemon for an instructor, another team or a tournament is easy to do. ANYONE can be fooled and I mean anyone, even Crawfish.

Some people play pool for money and will often do anything to gain an advantage. It is in their nature. They hustle pool.

Refine the system.

I can somewhat agree with this, however, there is a little difference involved. Did Rodney come into town acting like a wide-eyed hayseed with some cockamamie story about the circumstances behind his being there? Our guy did. And if your rating scale goes from 2-9, did Rodney totally lay down to get a starting rating of 3? Our guy did. Our scale goes from 4 to 12, and this guy managed to get himself rated 5.

I'm not pointing this out in order to defend myself. Mike McCune was able to hustle me into giving him that low rating when I thought I couldn't be hustled like that. I don't hate him for it. It taught me another lesson (pool is full of lessons). Rather, I point this out to emphasize the difference between Rodney's hustle and Mike's hustle. Rodney's hustle was a little more respectable and acceptable.

Well, that's enough out of me on this subject.

I don't remember the situation. I do remember, however, he said he shouldn't be at the top of the ratings. He wins the Monday night, then goes to the next poolroom on Tuesday and used that rank there, too. Won that too. Etc, Etc. Rodney being a six is worse than this guy a five. Think about it. Not much difference. Everyone has done something similar. If you want to rate me a five, I'll take it too. I'm certainly not gonna scream out "I'll match up with anyone in the house." right before tourney time.

i would not feel honored if even efren came in and stole from beginning players. i dont like how you support people who have to steal to make a living. if you can't make it playing pool on your skill then get a F"ING JOB. do you like having to look over your shoulder to make sure "your friends havent stolen your case and stick because they went bust". we dont need or want that kinda shit in our rooms. we asked him to play and pudding and his boyfriend said no. one of the guys tipped me for the tourny and i offered it to the guy who got shat on in the calcutta. laying down so you can club baby seals is one thing then to dump the finals to absolutely make every cent off them is f'ing weak. good luck with supporting losers who have to lie, cheat, and steal just to stay "afloat". you can have them all we dont want em.

You might be the coolest person I've ever met. Can I be you for a day? Hell yeah, I've been fooled. Rodney Morris, Luat, etc. etc. My fault. Nobody put a gun to my head. Hey, I've fooled a few.

Who said I liked Rodney Morris???

Listen all I'm saying is I play the game straight up. I don't beg for weight that I don't need. I don't dog just because someone is watching. I just don't think it's any fun to rob. Maybe it's because of my background in golf or maybe I'm just an idiot. But I like to play with integraty and just for a love of playing. I love pool. I don't play pool because I need the money. If you do then you should play everyday to be the best in the world and stay away from 6 and under tournaments. Go play in the Allen Hopkins Million Dollar 9-ball thing. I don't know.....whatever....I'm sure I'll get a bunch of b.s. for this but that's just the way I feel.

Funny thing about Harry is that he has a bunch of money. If we can find this guy maybe he'd like to try his true speed against me?

I'm bringing a trash bag full of pudding for everyone to enjoy tonight at Sweet Tooth!

Now, let's put this pig to rest!

You guys are comparing apples and oranges here....yet again....

You hustle a hustler, you are playing a game with someone that understands the game....you are outmoving them.....it's honor among theives and everyone accepts it....

You come in a hustle a bunch of beginners just trying to have fun, compete, and learn a little, you are stealing.....just like sandbagging in the APA.....it's embarrassing people....scum of the earth type stuff....

You get an estimate from a builder to do an addition.....other builders quoted $20k, but this guy says he can do it for $15k.....he knows his stuff, seems legitimate, and even shows you how he can save the money....he just needs $4k for materials and to start the job.....you pay the $4k and he skips town.....up front, you did all your homework, checked reference, and all that stuff.....guy seemed legit....after he skips town, you realize he had a fake ID, papers, the works......

Last week, you got a nice little $200 payday for your hustle at the beginners tourney.....this week, he got a $4k payday for his nice little hustle on you.....right????

good shit brock!! it's nice to see someone see it the way i do. i feel bad when i see people get taken advantage of. i see it as the difference between the men and the boys. the men stand up for the little guys who are getting picked on and the boys are the ones who gotta pick on the people who can't defend themselves.
