Money taken off the calcutta without any prior announcement, is that normal?

SBB added $4K between the prize fund and last woman standing. Is the TD associated with the SBB?

Looks like he clearly mentioned he was taking 10%. Oh, did he mention it before hand? Nope, but i'm sure he didn't mention a lot of things before hand.

Bottom line, would this info up front had stopped even 1 person from entering the tourney? Nope.

The only folks "losing" that 10% are the ones that won the calcutta. I'll take that action, If I win, you get a nice little tip. Seems more than reasonable to me.

They take between 18 and 25% of every bet made at the racetrack. State numbers games take 50%-10% is a great deal for a Calcuttae,

The TX Open 10-Ball also had a second calcutta. The 10% deduction for the two calcuttas combined was approximately $4,300.

Yep, i agree, thata why i said id take that action all day. Heck, my fathers pool room took 10% on the big money matches. Winner paid the juice. He provides good equipment, paid off the local constables, held the money, ensured no bs happened, and nobody complained, well not to his face anyways ;)

5% is a pretty common practice. This was a pretty small Calcutta in the scheme of things actually, but it was also a shorter/smaller event than what I'm used to with the Big Tyme Classic. 1st for the Calcutta last year was a hair over 20k (Alex Pagulayan).

So the key question is if calcultta is common practice in this event and 5% is common, then the TD in thsi event getting 10% is getting extra 5% above market norm
In business world, they call that "profiteering"
But heck who cares about the pool world- another 5% is peanuts $1K+

I'd bet that this was known well before the tournament, and has probably been 10% for many many years in this particular event.

I have seen 10 and 15 and once a Rube didnt charge anything but i never saw 5%- I think 10% is average and that is what I ALWAYS expect.

and $3200 in green fees

Wonder if the TD is the owner ? WPA charges a sanctioning fee , wonder what you get for that ? I understand pool rooms are in business to make money and I'm sure the entire place was used to host the tournament . I doubt Skinny Bob's is a 501-3c. It was played on 9 footers , wonder if that counts for anything ?
