Morbid Thread-Cues after Death

Well I was thinking tonight that God forbid I passed on who I would give my cues and pool stuff to,well it would go to my son when he was old enough.Curious as to whom you would give yours to or would you be buried with it and have you recieved any pool stuff from someone who has passed? :cool:

J\k. seriously though if i had no son then someone who would take care of it, not neccasarily family since none of them play alot but maybe a good local up and coming shooter.
 
From the thread title I thought it was going to be a pic thread of cues turned into firewood by their upset owners...:eek:

I figuring it will be a grand child that gets my gear. I had a pool plying friend who recently passed. He along with his son, daughter, and son in law were/are all APA players. The daughter has a couple kids and the younger boy (12 maybe) was just learning to play. He ended up with Grandpa's Scorpion (fibreglass sanded off the shaft) and cue case covered in those APA patches. Since he's got that cue the boy'sgame has come up a notch and he's really starting to shoot good. Seemed like a nice place for that cue to end up even though there are those here (myself included) who think Scorpion's are better on a bonfire...

I've already talked to somebody about unloading them for my wife and getting her some extra cash, I figure they'd fetch at least 10 grand. My sons don't really play, if they did they'd have first choice.
 
I did a "worst case scenario" document for my wife 4-5 years ago. In it, I layed out all the things she should know about our assets. I gave her the rundown of all the pool stuff I had at the time and some suggestions on where to sell. Since then, I have sold alot of my cues and changed tables. I am going to have to update the document soon I think. One thing that I plan to change is that if the worst should happen and she is by herself, I had originally written to her that she should either look towards ebay or contact some cue dealers ( I listed among others, John Wright out of Chicago and Mark K. who I got my Szamboti from many moons ago). Definitely I am going to erase Ebay and replace it with AZB Wanted/For Sale which is currently a much better place to sell than Ebay.
 
I told my wife to just pack it all up and take it to the pool hall and give it to the owner.

i'd give it to any of my children under the condition that they run 50 in straightpool or snooker. That way i'm sure they earned it and are not going to sell it to buy a playstation, an xbox or spend it on hookers :cool: . If they dont run it before they are 18, my wife will get whatever my collection is worth. They will get 1 playing cue for free to try to reach the 50 run, all the rest they will have to earn it :D

life didnt give me anything free and i'm glad i had to work for it. I want my children to have the same mentality.
 
A friend of mine and strong player unfortunately died at the young age of 52 from a heart condition that plagued his whole family. He had an old Joss West BEM plain Jane with an ivory joint. I told my wife that I wanted to ask his widow if I could buy the cue but thought it wouldn't be right to do that right away and that I would wait a few months before asking. As it turns out a guy that barely knew him but had played him a few times went to the funeral home and asked her right there if he could buy it and she gave it to him:eek: That one has haunted me for a while but I still think I did the right thing.
 
I am proud to report that after I am gone, none of my kids would have any use for any of my pool playing equipment.
 
My Schon is going in the ground with me and I'd probably donate my 2 joss's to the owners of my favorite pool hall. My life would be very boring if it wasn't for that place and they have always treated me like a valued customer and a friend. Given all the free table time they have given myself and the other regulars over the years, it would be the least I could do.

It is a funny coincidence that this thread popped up.

A few days ago I was driving around with my 3yr old son and he was in the back seat playing with my case and the accesories in it.

I kept an eye on him the whole time to make sure he didnt throw anything out the window:( Anyway, he looks up and very matter of factly asks "Daddy, can I have your pool stuff when you die?"

I was shocked and didnt know what to say, I mean, hes 3 and asking those questions, i dont even think he knows what it means to die.

After a few seconds, he asked again. So I replied, "Of course Buddy, if you want them you can have them, but that wont be for a long long time" He replied "allright!"


So I figure, even if he doesnt care for pool, he can have my stuff as a reminder of one of my passions.
