Mosconi article on CNN/Money website

Yeah, that's random. Maybe its because of Barry Bonds and attention he's bringing to baseball records. But you would think they would at least mention that in the article, then compare him to Mosconi and billiards.

How do you know that for sure??????..randyg

"Mosconi also had a cameo role in the popular film, which played a major part in a boom in pool's popularity. He appeared in a number of other film projects, the last of which was George Thorogood's music video for "Bad to the Bone."

I took the above from the article on cnn.com, does anyone know what his cameo was or in what part of the movie?

In which popular film? Mosconi had a cameo role in The Hustler (which played a major part in a boom in pool's popularity), but I thought everyone knew that.

He was the one holding the money. "Willie, give me the stake."

That's a pretty bold thing to say... Do you know Bonds? Or his Doctor? Or just the sports section of your daily 'news?'?

Oh come on pocket. watch some espn..they will show some highlights of bonds like 7-8 years and he weighed about 170. now he's like a football linebacker..." he's been in the weightroom" is your excuse? okay believe what you want. I still dont believe he earned it like Hank Aaron did but thats IMO

I agree with you 100%. IMO Hank Aaron is still the home run king and will remain so until surpassed by somebody who is not drug aided.

OK, I have to admit... I don't ESPN here in Poland...I still don't believe everything I see on TV or read in the Newspaper... What happened to inoccent until proven guilty?

Are you one to believe that metallica sued a canadian group for using the E and F chords on the guitar?

Oh, Not Me...that'd be crazy...well the entire news media did and all the talk shows across America... I wonder...did he really inhale?

The news media is so messed up, I just hope America wakes up and understands that... No, not just America...the entire world...

Oh, by the way...did you hear about the 30+ internet cafes and schools my son built in Iraq in his tour there? Or the Orphanages my cousin helped rebuild after she and her platoon pulled 4 burnt bodies off a bridge over there? Probably not...

Don't take me as a crazed conservative...I just believe in the WHOLE truth before passing judgement. And then, it's not my place to pass it...

How did a thread related to the esteemed Champion, Willie Mosconi, erode into a squabble about Barry Bonds? I can't even see how the two are relatable or how a parallel can be drawn. IMO, we should hold Mosconi's honor is much higher regard.

Thank you pointing us to the article. I guess it matters not why the article was written...its just great to see Mosconi getting (due) respect so many years after his death.

Exactly, and the single season home run record still belongs to Maris and not some roid addled junkie

And Mosconi still holds the straight pool record of 526 consecutive balls without a miss during a straight pool exhibition.

Joe,

He is in a couple of scenes - when they put up the money for
the first match - 'hold the money, Willie' and maybe racking the balls
once(?)
more importantly - the masse draw and power break shots were executed
by Willie.

He also cameoed in 'The Baltimore Bullet' as a sort of
color commentator.

Scott
The 'popular film' reference was to 'The Hustler' itself,
a very popular film at the time

Hey pocketchalker, I don't mean any offence by this but if you are in business, stay out of politics. They don't mix. No matter what you say you will offend someone.

Connecting Bonds and Mosconi

Bats use the same materials as cues. Bonds played with a Canadian made maple bat, not the traditional ash.

Did Mosconi play with an ash or a maple cue???:D
