Mosconi Cup, Team USA, the real problem still exists.

Just please never, never, never, never, never, ask about the "Video Music Awards"

Lawn Darts, or Horse Shoes? hmmm.......

Just please never, never, never, never, never, ask SHD about the "Video Music Awards"

So what's your best suggestion Dick?

i got it!
it's the INTERACTION -
whether you are ringside
or in a pool hall/bar with your boys
or on separate sofas with your sig other,
rooting....

fan interaction - that's what makes Mosconi.

(and it's the SAME thing that drives AZ)

The cup to me is very similar to a prize fight with a rowdy crowd.

....Promoters have got on this kick about how a "professional" acts and every player who doesn't act like that is not deserving to play professional pool....

i've seen SVB smack his cue TWICE, on the table - MAY 2012. (we freaked out)

they all do it.
we all do it.
it's called pool.
if you can't stand it - get out of the game.

Come to find out a lot of the fans in those days were rugby fans.

The year I played in the Mosconi Cup the crowd was so rowdy they stopped serving beer in the tournament room. The only way you could get served was to go up a huge flight of stairs to the bar in the room above.

I actually had a "tush hog" try to take my American vest after asking me over and over if he could have it......this had a hilarious ending. ....brutal !!! :woot: Come to find out they were rugby fans and hadn't quite adapted to watching "pocket billiards".

After that we had security appointed to us, and no more beer was allowed in the tournament room the rest of the time. It was still a blast, and I was glad to have all those years hustling red neck bars to draw from.

Like em or not, those fans make that event and I looked forward to facing them again.

I told the players in 2012 after the first night (a couple of them were really rattled) "at least they're not shooting balls off the table with pistols like they did when I was on the road".......there was a long, strained silence.

Brandon Shuff ask hesitantly "they really did that?" I looked him dead in the eye and said "absolutely!!!" He smiled, and at the moment that's what I was hoping for.

:rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

(or Canucks????)

Lol, that is cool!

I personally love the fans at the cup, I like the atmosphere and I like the event. Pool needs fans and fans need to have fun.

For examlple http://youtu.be/rHvVHAGiAx8 <<< This is some great pool but where are the fans?

'Lite Pool' - a third less calories and not much taste at all.

Yes, not seeing a room full of passionate fans is something I didn't expect when I came back into the game. When I "real eyesed" what was going on I felt like my home town had been devastated by missiles...it was one of the most depressing situations I'd ever witnessed and the link you provided sums up what I'm saying.

What went wrong?

Why were they no longer doing charity evens at Pro Tournaments?

How are they going to get TV without doing charity events? ...wait a minute, the "TV Table" is not TV at all....it's the internet......why do they call it the "TV Table" if it's really the "internet table"? -------why is everything so confusing?

Why are there no Public Relations people involved? Who's going to publicize the players? Who is looking out for their best interest? Are they left to fend for themselves?

Who was doing the marketing? ....the advertising? .....who was doing anything for Pro Pool? Sure they still had some isolated tournaments, however, that didn't really matter if there was no one there to support them (fan wise).

What was up with all the gimmicky equipment? Racks that you can make a ball every time....."Jump Cues" that get over balls an inch away? What's going on? Why would anyone want to dilute the game down to 'Pool Lite".....and take out all the greatest substance and replace it with ???

This is what went through my mind the first few minutes of my initial experience.

Now I understand more, however, it's still a mystery how this degree of negligence could happen to such an awesome game.....was it "meant to be".....is there a tremendous opportunity?

That was not a 'long, strained silence' CJ, that was utter disbelief !...I have seen more than a few pistols, in all
my years on the road..But I have NEVER seen anyone shoot at a pool ball !....No wonder your team was 'rattled', and couldn't win, if that was your idea of a "Pep Talk" !

SJD

PS..Although I did see a guy shoot a league captain once...for excessive bullsh*tting ! ;)

I don't think you grow the sport by trying to present every player as Ralf Souquet either. Promoters have got on this kick about how a "professional" acts and every player who doesn't act like that is not deserving to play professional pool. These promoters are turning some fans against the players. Get real. All of the players can be presented in an exciting, publicly acceptable manner. Even the most hard core hustler could be presented in an acceptable manner by a good promoter.

Sonic Satori, its kind of scary but I could swear that you're starting to channel CJ.

Must be all that Meditating.

Its almost like you were looking in a mirror and talking to CJ.

I'm probably wrong tho, right.

Careful Blue Hog man....Accusing someone of looking, or sounding like CJ, could soon be a bannable offense !
(or it may get you shot with a pistol)

Poker is much more boring than pool.... they discovered "the magic Hole Card bullet"

Baseball is much more boring than pool....they discovered "the magic Marketing bullet"

NASCAR is much more boring than pool..... they discovered "the magic Crash bullet"

Golf is much more boring than pool..... they discovered "the magic Tiger bullet"

Foot ball is much more boring than pool..... they discovered "the magic TV bullet

If anything pool is MORE BORING now than back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.....is ther a reason? Of course, they refuse to acknowledge pool's "magic bullet".....the reasons are always simple when we have "real eyes" to "realize" the "real lies"......'The Game is the Teacher'

Holey Jebus CJ - you're comparing pool to baseball, NASCAR, golf and FOOTBALL? That's comparing the outhouse in your back yard to the pyramids. I love you CJ, but in this entire thread you sound like you need some time in an "I love me jacket" being watched by (other) professionals with psychology degrees.

I will give you Baseball, NASCAR and golf are more boring than pool to the 1/10 of 1 percent of people that have involvement with pool, but unlike POOL, Baseball has over 100 years of advancement from your Product Marketing 101.

There is no magic bullet, no winning lottery ticket, no "why the eff didn't we think of bonus ball before", or ah-ha moment that is going to "rescue" pool.

The white elephant in the room is what pool would need to get over before it has mass appeal - and that is what you yourself have bragged about and (my opinion) lied about (Buddy's dump). That is how funny it is to cheat someone out of their money. That seems to be the cornerstone of pool - with the availability of information in the world today, that cornerstone is crumbling and so is the game.

So to be frank, it is the liars, cheats and con men that have solidified pool's future.

No worry tho, he is shopping for new ammo !

I'll give you a "magic bullet" for Pool. $500,000 purses with the winner getting 100K! That much OR MORE will get the attention of sports fans and kids the world over. All of a sudden Pool will get very interesting for a lot of folks!

Spot on jay. But CJ will say his focus groups show otherwise
