Mosconi Cup, Team USA, the real problem still exists.

What's so ironic is it's one of the few things from that day I remember vividly

I was playing with David Howard and Earl one day. It was a Par 3 hole 165 yards - Earl and I hit 8 Iron, and David hit 6 Iron......David's ball went in on a low, flat trafectory, hit, skipped, wiggled, and crawled into the hole for a HOLE IN ONE!!!

David was excited and we all "high fived" him.......then it came - "You hit the wrong club!!!" ...... said Earl with a lecturing tone in his voice....."You hit the wrong dang club....if you would have hit the right club you never would have made that shot!!!"

David Howard and I still laugh about that and Earl lectured David the entire cart ride to the next hole.......Earl is funny, you just have to appreciate how he expresses himself.

What's so ironic is it's one of the few things from that day I remember vividly......and so does David Howard.

Close to scratch means very little. The touring golfers are "plus handicap" meaning better than scratch often by quite a bit, and on difficult courses. You know how far they move the tees back for the pros? I be willing to bet Earl couldn't break 100 at Augusta even at his best under Masters conditions. Anyway this nonsense is silly. If you CAN play a sport that pays literally millions even to the guys who finish 100th on the money list...you do. Heck some of the caddies are literally millionaires.
My buddys cousin was a 1st round draft pick of the Yankees as a pitcher 20 or so years ago and they paid him a million dollar bonus at least and sent him right to the minors. He did make it to the big leagues and the last contract he had (with the Reds) was something like 3 years 26 million total. He can buy one heck of a lot of Diamond tables....although he blew his arm and back out.
Oh...his cousin was not really athletic at all...kinda of chubby and like to bowl and play pool and is pretty good. Very nice guy though I still look him up when I return to the area.
I also knew the best horseshoe pitcher in PA. He was amazing to watch. Never heard him belly ache that he couldn't earn a living. Apparently he had the sense to know that he was the one who picked the sport, and Nike wasn't going to come-a-calling with endorsement offers.

P.S. playing a round of golf with Earl would have to be a nightmare...I've played with complainers...they also tend to keep score a little "funny"

a charity event a WIZARDS in Dallas

I've played pool several times with Spud Webb.....he's a tiny fella....plays pretty good 8Ball, I played as his partner in a charity event a WIZARDS in Dallas.......he used to come to my club, 'Carsons Palace' at least once a week and play pool and hang out with the "playas". Michael was also a regular, we played many times, until he got in "that trouble".

He was an NBA starter for years. The fact that he does not play today is irrelevant. You take him in his prime and he would compete against today's stars. He played very well. Obviously guys that size are the exception, but they are out there.

No way. What did he do, fall out of the Tree House?

Why uncorrected I wonder? I was 20/10 until I passed 28 then computers took their toll.... I am 20/20 now uncorrected but I feel like I can't see shazbat anymore.... Would contacts not get me back there?

I always took it for granted... Was all district in baseball and basketball until I started playing pool... I always figured it was hand/eye and not just eye... You are gonna cost me money if I have to go see the eye doc......

uncorrected, just to demonstrate they were born with something of a head start. Sure, some can correct it. And I think you are correct, it is hand/eye as well, but sure helps to have quick hands AND a good eye, or at least a little better than the guy trying out next to you ;)

Generally speaking, the limit of your visual acuity (highest achievable corrected vision) is determined by the density of cones in your macula. This cone density naturally decreases with age, therefore glasses may not get you back to 20/10.

However, if your eyesight has worsened for reasons other than a reduction in your cone density (e.g. change in corneal shape), glasses or contacts may help.

SVB weighs a buck fifty dripping wet. I wish I still did ;) He's one of the best pool players in the country, if not the best. He's seems like a terrific kid as well. And I"m a huge fan, love to watch him play.

But just on genetics alone, he could not play pro football, basketball, hockey, baseball, etc. Even if he had the genetics, he would need the speed (running) or hand speed (hitting), or the eyes? Funny, half of pro baseball players have something in common, do you know what it is? Do you know anyone in those pro sports who weighs a buck fifty ? anyone, anyone, bueller ?

SVB doesn't weigh a buck fifty. I bet he's closer to 170 and he has a pretty athletic build if you ask me. He could easily carry 180 pounds. I for one don't think all Major League ball players are playing at their natural weight. The game has forced many of them to put on a lot of added muscle as they have climbed up the ranks. Even still there are a lot of smaller Major Leaguers and before the steroid era there were even more.

In my mind, I still consider baseball to be one of those games where a player can still overcome their size limitations. I think a lot of the Japanese players are proving this.

good guess but no. uncorrected vision of 20/10

Is there any chance that playing so much baseball has IMPROVED some these players eye sight?

I'm not looking to argue with you on this because you clearly know more about baseball than I do I just think you aren't giving SVB enough credit here.

I'm not sure how much more credit I can give the guy, calling him the best or one of the best players in the USA, and one of my fav players to watch ;)

But, yeah, he looked skinnier to me when he was younger. I bet he was not more than a buck fifty in his early 20's. But I'm older now, so everyone looks skinnier and younger to me ;)

I would not recommend it unless you really need "super-vision". .

Actually when I was in Phoenix a professional baseball trainer put me through a series of eye strengthening exercises......it was amazing what it did to my eye sight, however it was a lot of work and I would not recommend it unless you really need "super-vision". .

Eye strengthening?

One bourbon , one scotch , and one beeyuh.

I always see better then. Or at least certain people look better anyway.

people don't "real eyes" their vision could be drastically improved

Yes, many people don't "real eyes" their vision could be drastically improved through exercise, instead of corrective lenses.......of course exercise isn't exactly popular with anyone that doesn't want to improve, so there's a dilemma.

When I went through my physical fitness protocol in Phoenix I saw Pro Baseball players do this type of training routinely, especially the ambitious hitters.

'To be recreative is to be educative..'

Which is not to say that education must artificially be made fun, but rather the mere act of recreating trains one's body and mind for the tasks at hand. The mind's reward centers remember how good it feels to win, solidifying the lessons learned.

Recreation is the teacher.

there is no exercise on this planet that will take ones eye sight from 20/20 to 20/10 ,, the best you can do is to get your eyes to see clearer when they are tired or out of focus , also you can train yourself to recognize say a fast ball from a curve ball but that's about it

A lot of major sports scan the pool halls for hidden talent, kinda like how the NFL checks out some of the college basketball players toward the end of the draft for possible tight ends.
