Mosconi Cup Unpicked Players Bail Out

Twas the day before Thanksgiving,
and all through the forum,
same members, same opinions,
but there still is no quorum.

Sheesh! This thread is still going? Man, oh, man, let's move on to a new topic on the Main Page.

Let's talk trash to Darren Appelton or Dragon Productions.

Barry Behrman is still on the menu.

Panjo sucks, so they say.

How about that Scooter representing American pool in a TV production entitled "American Hustlers"? Wait until you get a load of Tedder's eyebrows. Perfect, manicured, looks like he's more from NYC than Beautiful Dixie.

Not much more anybody can say about the topic of this thread. Let's beat something else to death. After all . . .

It sbould have never been started in the first place. I think we need to put Elvicash in the middle of a circle jerk! Lol

Maybe the 3 players didn't go because they thought they might come back "english"

That's some funny sh*% my friend. :D

Maybe the 3 players didn't go because they thought they might come back "english" with an uncontrollable desire to "pot" balls and put cream in their tea.

. Comparing them to Navy Seals is like visiting a prison and coming out a criminal.

I borrowed it off a guy named "Guido" - I'm still giving him TOI lessons

Now you tell us!!!

I would have hit you up in 2012 if I knew you would offer that deal, and with no interest?

Instead I borrowed it off a guy named "Guido" - I'm still giving him TOI lessons to pay him off...:groucho:...I'm surprised this has never come up before, it's a pretty serious issue for the players. We even had to put up a credit card for the room, luckily Johnny Archer was rooming with me because all I carry is debit cards.

Now to a few other items: CJ - I would offer to front the money to the traveling players IF they cannot wait for MatchRoom to reimburse them. All MatchRoom has to do is agree to send the checks to me.

Last night I went to Big Stix in Breese, IL to support and watch the US Mosconi Ciup team. During the night I had the opportunity to speak to both captain Mark Wilson and retired Navy SEAL Lt. Commander Amir Pishdad, who is acting as a vice-captain. During our conversation I asked Mark some pointed questions. Another AZ member was sitting next to me who also heard what Mark had to say.

Bottom line: everything I have posted in this thread is accurate. No conjecture. Those that have their panties in a bunch defending their buddies can go pound sand.

How many pounds does it take?

I bet you've pounded a lot of sand in your time....you know that's probably why your eyesight is so poor. :groucho:

I'll be the first to say you actually went out and asked the man himself and that gives you credibility. Some here owe you an apology.
I emailed Mark Wilson months ago after the TEAM trip to Coronado, CA to visit the training center. His response told me he really believed in this TEAM of 8. There was a sense of pride in seeing the guys together where very very few ever get to go.

No matter what anyone says, there is a sense of loss and disappointment in how the three handled the situation. Having a retired SEAL involved with the team makes it all the more disappointing.

I doubt there will be any apologies but I can see that already the personal attacks are piling up. It's AZ. No surprises there.

I spoke for a fair bit with vice captain retired Navy SEAL Lt. Commander Amir Pishdad. You cannot help but get revved up talking to this guy. I mean, he is really amazing, a great motivator, and I have no doubt that he has helped tremendously with helping this group of players cohere into a team.

Apologize for what Lou? That Mark expected the 3 that didn't make the cut to still spend 16 days of their life supporting the Mosconi Cup? Of course Mark did, that is why each had to call him to tell him they weren't going. That is the obvious here. Gee you got Mark to repeat that last night. High five.

I consider Mark a friend and as his friend I would tell him that requesting the 3 that did not make the team to go to England was a bad idea. That is my opinion. As Marks friend I would respect his opinion as well. If that can't old true than there isn't much of a friendship there. That's a life lesson not directed at Mark. There is nothing to apologize to you, him or anyone else for. At first I too thought they should go and half heartily asked Oscar to reconsider before he told Mark. But now, after thinking it thru rationally, I agree with Oscar and others for not going. If Mark or Matchroom ban them from the island because of this, life goes on. But if they were good enough to be considered before they should still be good enough to be considered again. Maybe Mike DeChaine should have to go to England on his own dime and support the team so he could be considered next year. Seems that he needs to show he is more of a team guy than anyone cause as the #2 skilled USA player, he was completely left off this year. That was sarcasm by the way that I think Mike needs to pay his own way to cheer for the team.

Oh and go back and read what Justin Bergman wrote. He doesn't feel any disappointment or abandonment that the 3 have decided not to go. You think Justin wouldn't welcome Oscar as a teammate next year if they were both on the team? You think Justin would have some issue and not let Oscar play in any of the reindeer games with the team? See what I did there - Merry Christmas.

Steve,

You're still the teacher!!!!

I don't think you need to talk to Mark to know that the three didn't follow through on the plan, and that in particular Oscar was burning bridges in his ABR interview.

However, I'd be interested to know if Mark takes any of the blame, and changes things for next year. Inviting 8 players, knowing that 3 won't make the cut, is tough just on a human level, and it's probably asking too much from a sport where the team concept is not well ingrained, to say the least.

Who cares Lou? Only you!

Honest question Jay: Do you really think it's a bad thing to talk about stuff like this? Isn't this what sports fans of "real" sports do all the time - second guess coaches and players, talk about teams, players, and coaches that they like and dislike?

Rah Rah Rah only goes so far I'm afraid. I'm pulling for our guys but i seriously think a lot of people are overestimating the worth of this 'team' thing. Im not sure it is worth a game. We soon will see.

No matter how you slice it, this year inviting the 8 players to "compete" for the 5 playing spots on the team, has generated a lot of additional interest in the USA Mosconi Cup Team. Good marketing by Mark Wilson and GREAT for Matchroom Sports, imo.

Am still waiting for the John Schmidt haters to have their say this morning. (I guess he just got lucky last night) :D:D:D

lol, watchez, I said, "I doubt there will be any apologies..."

Didn't say I was owed any apologies and in fact I said that because I felt no apologies were in order.

Lou Figueroa
watchez is the teacher?

There was talk about burning outspoken pool players at the stake

Yes, that's true in "other" sports, but this is pool, and if anyone bad mouths "the powers that be" they usually get barred, blackballed or excommunicated.

There was talk about burning outspoken pool players at the stake, I'm pretty sure that never got passed.....wait a minute, someone's at the door.....guess I spoke too soon. ;)

That has a ring to it......hmmmm, it just needs to be tweaked a little bit. ;)

CJ,

That's what it says in his signature line. Who am I to doubt ;) .

My teachers were Crane, Hubbart, Sigel, Howey, Casanzio, Grau and a few others. I've taught no one who will admit it  .
