Johnny Archer has been chosen by Matchroom. Assuming Corey and Oscar are in, as their BCA points lead seems insurmountable, that only leaves 2 spots on our US squad!

We get to vote any day now for one spot, at www.matchroompool.com, and the other will be chosen this week by Matchroom. I believe Matchroom will choose first, but I'm not sure.

To get a little feel where the "real" vote may go, I thought it'd be interesting to do a premature unofficial poll. Who might you be voting for? This is not a public poll; you vote anonymously.

We can only have 10 options in a poll and I wish there were availability for a few more. I'd have added JJ, Robb Saez, Gabe Owen and Charlie Williams. No disrespect to anyone, mmmkay?

Please wait for me to construct the alphabetical poll.

I think Earl is a lock for MRS pick, and SVB is the man over anybody else for the pick 'em slot.

Wise words. My sediment exactly. MR picks Earl in part due to increased viewership (sponsor $), knowing Shane will likely win the vote.

But, ain't nuthin for certain in this psychotic sport!

Hard to say here whats gonna happen. I think oscar went 2 and taoast at the open right. Johnny went deep intp the field i think johnny can still over take oscar on the points list.

Damn, Bartram is the only man to beat the 2 time US Open champion in the tournament this year and he still can't get his name on a list?!!! Guess i'll have to write mine in: Chris "The Smooth Criminal" Bartram

I can't figure out much of the crazy BCA points calculation/format. I've read the explanations and the list of events the generate BCA points and so much is unclear. But I am sure Johnny will not get the 76 points needed to pass Oscar or Corey - he needed a top 6 or so to get that many points. Unless there's some other thing that factors in, Johnny won't make up the spread on Oscar. That said, even if Johnny DID finish in the top 2, I'd THINK Matchroom would pick the top 2 not yet chosen.

Stranger things have happened though!

This doesnt make any sense to me. I can't vote until after Matchroom has made their picks.

I mean, if I vote now and pick an obvious choice like SVB, then Matchroom will choose their players, likely pick SVB anyway, and my vote for the public choice will have been wasted. But if I choose a less popular player and Matchroom doesn't pick SVB, then I feel like an idiot for having not submitted my real vote.

This reminds me of voting in politics. If you really hate the Conservatives but want vote for the Green Party, you have no choice but to vote for the Liberals (its an example, I'm not even American). It's all backwards. lol

PS. My choice is actually Shannon Daulton, although he's clearly not on the list for a number of reasons. He's not the right pick, but he's my personal choice.

A case can be made for all the wonderful players listed, but in 2009, in the world of nine ball, the discipline applicable to the Mosconi Cup, I don't feel any American can match what Shane Van Boening accomplished in the nine ball event at Derby City, besting a field of over 400 players. On paper, Shane deserves the nod. Still, my sentimental choice is John Schmidt.

thanks sjm.ive played 12 events this year.other players in running have played over 25. that being said ive made about the same amount which means my earnings per event are much higher.
anyway i think many players would be great but if im lucky enough to be picked im giving 10 percent of winnings to charity.
so if im picked ill play well i promise and will be giving back to pool.thanks for the consideration guys.

My mosconi cup dream team (not in any particular order):

Archer
Schmidt
SVB
Bartram
Hatch

I think these guys all have respect for each others game and would make a strong TEAM. Nobody here would quit. Honorable mention to Deuel.

I'm suprised to see Earl so high on the vote right now. I know he is entertaining and draws a crowd but if the U.S. actually wants to win, he may still play great but he's horrible for team chemistry.

I witnessed it first hand last year. He refuses to participate in team dinners, hardly practiced with the team, didn't go out to watch anyone else play during their matches and when he did interact with them all he did was bring everyone down.

He got in trouble with the promoters one day last year for cursing on live TV during an interview and after storming off set saying something like "no one ever apologizes for Tiger Woods when he curses on the course..." he refused to talk to anyone for the next day or so, including his team mates. Just flat out pretended that no one was talking to him.

I would be surprised if any of the potential team members even want him on the team this year. He showed last week that he can still play as well as any of them, but the U.S. team needs players that pull for each other.

If a player can't be a class act. They should not represent the game.
The players have a hard enough time making a living without having someone with a bad attitude bring down the sport.

My Picks are

Archer
SVB
Oscar
Donnie
Bartram

I think the U.S. needs a team of strong young players that are hungry. For the same guys that go every year, it doesn't seem like they want to win it quite as badly.

I agree 100% on both of your posts....And I totally agree with Bartram(he is a friggin animal and shooting the lights out right now).
But I also think Schmidt should be in there somewhere.

Do the players win cash? Do they put themselves in?

Im not really down the the country vs. country thing to be honest. I'm not much of a flag waver. I like certain players more than others and could care less where they were born.

$10k to each on the losers side and $20k to the winners. I don't know how expenses are addressed and if they get a sweet gift bag - like a new Camaro or something. (right John? ;))
