Mosconi Cup - Your Prediction Please

I highly doubt that this is the case.

WWIW it says a quote by gesan but that's what was said in response to me saying I don't know of it being shown on line. In the past espn3 has shown it,but I see no indication that it will this year. I don't know of any live stream but if there is one. I wish someone would share that information.

That's ridiculous if they don't show it in the US even online...I have absolutely no idea how TV/internet licencing rights work...but you'd assume someone could make money out of offering a ppv service at least in the US surely?

In a 2 team competition, how can the organisers not arrange for 1 team's supporters to watch the match...it makes no sense!!! If no-one else wants to buy the rights, presumably Matchroom can simply show it themselves via their website?

I agree, its what got me into American pool in the first place.

Growing up in the UK we see snooker on TV and most tables are the 7ft English pool style tables, so the Mosconi Cup was completely different to anything else. Also at the time, Matchroom televised the World 9-Ball Championships from Cardiff, Wales, so there was a lot of interest on this side of the pond.

Sadly it has died out a bit since then :-(

I hear ya VJ sadly it seems to be the case here in the states too! It surely does seem like it could be a money maker too. Great rivalry , the fans on your side of the pond irate the me at times but the enthusiasm and loyalty is unbelievable. Not just in pool, when Ricky Hatton was fighting the support and singing was something to behold.

I hope USA prevails but my hats off to the euro fans!

So. Cal's Oscar Dominguez is going to amaze everyone! MVP!

USA... The cats in the bag and the bags in the river!

The fans get into the spirit of things over here, that is true :-)

There is of course always a (small but loud) minority that boo and try and put off the US players, but please don’t think that’s most Euro fans, most have complete respect for players on both teams, they just like to show their support loudly!

The captains still have to pick players ? If yes, how many ?

No, the teams are already picked.

Team Europe: Shaw, Alcaide, Vandenberg, Filler, Souquet
Team USA: Van Boening, Thorpe, Woodward, Dominguez, Hatch

The weakest team Europe in ages. If the US don't win this, they won't win in the next 5 years!

Your opinion basically shows that you know very little about euro players on the team. Team USA will have to play their A-game over 90% of the time to be competitive against this year Euro team, Euro team will not defeat themselves. The question is if Johann can ignite that A-game in USA team members - I believe he can and if it is the case THEN it will be interesting matchup, otherwise Euros will torture USA badly..

Tap tap....on point, marek.

Everbody is talking about Shaw and Filler to be the top players and underestimate the other three players.

Ralf Souquet...."too old and over the edge"..... you can not be over the edge when you win your 22nd and 23rd title on the Eurotour this year and be the top ranking player in that event.

David Alcaide......"weak link"......Really???? ....winner of the World Pool Master this year and 4th place overal in the Eurotour this year

Nick van den Berg...."weak link"......one of the most constant players in Europe in the last decade and a big fighter.

So I can see no weak link in Team Europe. Team USA would be glad to have such strong players in her team. Confidence is good for Team USA but don´t make the mistake to be arrogance and underestimate Team Europe.

No question these are all great players, and the number of worthy top players to choose from for the Mosconi Cup teams was far deeper for the Europeans. I just don't understand when you look at any of the 2017 rankings (world, euro or whatever) how they could have left Ouschan out, particularly with his dominant Mosconi Cup record over the past 2 years. And yeah I know Kaci has not "paid his dues" yet, but his performances this year in major US tournaments vs top competition (2 World Pool Series victories and runner-up to Jayson Shaw in the US Open) you would have thought might have earned him a spot on the team, regardless of his age. Yeah, I know they are not playing 8-ball, but still, 2 out of 4 victories in that series for that teenager was mind blowingly impressive to me! Perhaps they thought the shot clock could possibly be an issue for him?

Well said. No doubt in my mind mind that substituting Kaci and Ouschan for Alcaide and Vandenberg, who are both superb players, would make Team Europe quite a bit stronger. Kaci, quite simply, is on fire right now and Ouschan has won both the China Open and the WPA World 9-ball championship. Saying that this is a weaker Team Europe than usual is fair, but it is still a strong team of exceptional players that will be very tough to beat, and as I've noted previously, Europe is a deserving favorite to win the event.

Here is the performance of the five EU team members based just on games played in the last 12 months.. All these players have quite a number of events. Souquet, for example, has WPS event in Jan, World Pool Masters and Eurotour Treviso in Feb, Eurotour Portugal in MAR, WPS in April, Eurotour Austria Open in May, China Open in June, WPS event and US Open 10-Ball in July, Great Britain 9-Ball Tour/UK Open and Eurotour Dutch Open in Aug, Kremlin Cup in Sept, Eurotour Austria Open and US Open in Oct, and Eurotour Treviso in Nov.

Of course they are all great players, but I think a team featuring Appleton, Mika Immonen, and Hohmann would be stronger even if their tournament results over the past year aren't great.

i respect jay h,
he knows his pool

but i can not see why the coach or manager has anything to do with
the play of the players

i honestly don't get it

how could he light a fire etc

goblet gook

pyhchological nonsense
poo bah
humbug

it was just the other day everyone was sure that cj would affect the outcome

motivational experts bring me down and i find it funny that we all
basically admit it every year
shane plays pretty good all year with no help

then he goes to the mosconi with help and doesn't win

tiger woods was a good example in golf

pool will never be a team sport to me
and if it was,i would quit playing

hoorah
