Most Under Rated Cue Maker

Mikkelsen Cues... He builds a GREAT cue and if you like LD shafts, IMO he makes the best, It is called the bmxtreme. If you come across someone with one try it out, or if you are interested check out mikkelsencues.com. I mean there are alot of great cue makers out there, dont get me wrong. I just think he might be a little underated as this was what the thread was asking.

Leon Sly, he will eventually get the notoriety he deserves.

Lee Pepper, is second on my list. I have one conversion and another on the way. If his customs are, (and I'm positive they are) come close to the attention he puts into a conversion, then he gets a vote from me as well.

+1 on both Paul and Doug. I owned a Doug Patrick cue and it was well made and I got compliments wherever I took it. I currently own a cue made by Paul and it is also well made. I received compliments on it as well. They both are great guys to deal with.

If your talking about the Paul Sumrall that you posted pics of in the gallery awhile ago, that thing had some kick a$$ looking veneers in it. Please post a pic here if you would please. Thanks
Jeff

Not sure if he's "underrated", but I'll say often overlooked - Pat Diveney. That man makes a GREAT playing cue, and his work is very nice as well.

Also overlooked, but mentioned by Jay is Dave Jacoby....he really knows how to build a gorgeous cue, and you won't believe the pricetag on it (lotta cue for the cash!!!) Anyone who has a "custom" from Dave knows

I'm new to the pool scene so I don't know how "well known" or "rated" he is but IMO Bill Webb builds a great cue...

Thanks :) I wouldn't consider myself underrated, though. I have gotten due exposure. I think there are lots of "under the radar" builders who do great work & deserve the recognition. But for some reason, the market as a whole chooses who is who & it's not always determined by quality.

No i wouldn't consider you underrated either. Your so right about the market is driven sometimes not by who is making the best cues but for as we well know, shall we say other reasons.

Pat Diviney, Rick Howard...these cues are like candy in your hands, I have heard nothing but good things about Kieth Josey. I would also have to mention the man who has made my main player and that would be John Davis (Davis blanks on all these other cues). John made one and sent it to me, it rocks, from craftsmanship to play!.

I hear you talking!!!!!!!!!!

post up some pictures. i've never heard of him before

Here are a few that i have had, I have played with quite a few cues and IMO his play the best so far.

3 of the cues in the picture are his the other is a fisher.

These are pretty plain jane as that is what i like... Its to bad he has nt updated his site because the cues he can and has made look amazing, And play even better. I am all about playability. Here is the one i am currently using, I use one of his BMXtreme 2 shafts and it is BEM, I have tried almost every LD shaft and these IMO are fantastic. I just took the picture with my phone so the quality is not that great.

I seldom look on the main forum but just stick to the cue makers section but I just noticed this thread and would like to take the time to thank those who have spoken so highly of my cues. Thank you.

Dick

I have yet to play with one of your cues but have heard great things about you and them. I hope to one day shoot with one.

I don't hear enough about Dan Dishaw in these forums, the cuemaker from Syracuse, NY. From what I've heard he's an awesome cue maker and has one of his cues on display in the Smithsonian Institute! He also builds amazing guitars, 2 of them I play exclusively so I guess you could say he is quite a talented craftsman.............

I have four.... but one is sort of on the fence because he is getting to be pretty well known. That would be Leon Sly. Work and playability are phenomenal. Enough said because many of you already know him

1. Bob and Larry Thompson from West Virginia. Have you seen their cues? There has never been anything designed like them in my opinion. Works of art. And, they play very well too. Larry and Bob couldn't be two nicer guys to deal with either. Salt of the earth.

2. Carolina Custom. These cues are classicly designed but don't draw the kind of money that is on par with similar cue makers. They play great and they look great. What more could you ask for?

3. Finally, Steve Kornele out of Oklahoma. The guy is an ivory wizard. Very sharp designs and great attention to detail. And of course, superb playability. And guess what... did I mention the price is really reasonable? Well, it is. If it is any consilation to check him out.... he was taught how to make cues by the legendary Verl Horn... the other master of the ivory.

Those are my under the radar guys.

Greg

I will put Jack Madden with any high end cuemaker in the country. Workmanship is next to none. Besides that he is my friend!

Yes, but he is hardly under-rated. He is very well known and commands a very decent price for the quality of workmanship.

cue maker

What cuemaker do you feel is flying under the radar? As far as quality, fit, finish, point work, price, etc. Which cuemaker gives you the best bang for your buck so to speak. Lets see what people come up with. Thanks for your input.

Bill Mcdaniel-
Now retired from cue making. our loss.
Made the best looking, excellent quality. cues and they all played great!
The man should be in the cue makers Hall of Fame!

Yes, he did make a hell of a cue. But, not really under the radar.
