I think you are getting your $375 back and I believe there are two individuals that said they would take the cue. Maybe I read it wrong.

Varney Cues said:...I supplied pics & you said that it was exactly as you imagined. The cue just had its final pass taken and is now getting hardware. Now soon as I return from my family emergency you sent a pm saying it wasn't correct...that there wasn't enough space between the base of the points. I replied no problem, I could move the wrap up a tad to get the effect you wanted. I was a bit puzzled as most others want the points closer together at the base...not with a wide gap. But I was going to make it as you requested.
Varney Cues said:Well lets set the record straight. You ordered a no veneer 4pt coco into bem, linen wrap, and coco buttsleeve. You paid a $375 deposit on the cue in Feb of 07. There was obviously some confusion if you thought the wait on a made from scratch custom 4pt was 90 days. The 90 day wait is on j/b's & hustler style cues...and often depending on how fancy, it can be even longer. Short splice cues made from absolute scratch are much longer...closer to a year or more. There was no problem with you until about a month ago you requested a refund unless I supplied pics of the cue proving it was near finished. I supplied pics & you said that it was exactly as you imagined. Then you were concerned that it would make the wrap too long...well it would not. There is no set standard on how long a wrap area should be...and extending it 1/2" is nothing. Wraps lengths often vary from cue to cue & from maker to maker.
So now...instead sending me a pm you want to start a public thread asking for a refund? Class move buddy. True, I did not call you but I have answered every pm. I didn't feel the need to call CA to discuss if 1/2" would make the wrap too long. You never said "I need my money back, please call me". Wouldn't matter anyway. I don't refund deposits on custom orders that I've been working on for 9 months, I have more than that invested anyway. If I called everyone who wanted to speak with me then I'd spend 90% of the day on the phone. I learned this long ago, thats why I have no phone in my shop as it rang nonstop & I got zero work done. Also I'm sorry but I simply refuse to take short cuts & hurry a cue for anyone. Its my name on the cue and it will represent me many years from now, long after I'm sure you flip it. I make the cue correct no matter who its for because the cues will be around long after I'm gone as well. If you think that 9 - 10 - 11 months is too long to wait for a custom made from scratch cue...then you better check around a bit.
I have a lot going on right now & my #1 concern is the health of my wife & our future son. If I have to slow things down a bit until our son is born in Dec. then so be it...thats my main priority. Just to show what a stand up guy I am...I will do this for you. Someone pay Sam his $375 deposit back...and here is the deal of the year...instead of paying the $375 balance...I'll sell you the cue for $100 as soon as its completed.I just want this guy off my back. Other cuemakers take note. Whomever wants to take advantage of the deal let me know. Below is a pic of what the cue will look like. Thank you.

I don't know you, but I like your style. You responded a little over three hours after Poolplayers initial post. He had already posted three times on this same thread (within a two hour period). He seemed a little impatient to get a quick response, which you gave him (and us).
Interesting to me is the fact that we haven't heard from Poolplayer after your response to his request for a refund. Maybe he'll come on here now and bash me for getting involved. It is a public forum and I have an opinion, so "no sale" there.
I hope everything works out for you and your wife, and your newly minted son. This will be your finest work, and it only took nine months!

qbilder said:This is a prime example of why I prefer NOT to accept any payment before the cue is complete. If I have somebody's money, they own my time. I'm slow, and often bust my TOC by a very long time. There's no secret that i'm in no particular hurry to get a cue done. All I can do is give an estimated time of when things "should" be done. However, I have absolutely no idea, honestly. It's wood, I have a life away from my lathe, and sometimes I just get so sick of seeing cues that I quit for a little while.
If I have a choice between polishing a cue & taking my wife out to dinner, the cue waits. If the next morning my kids want to play, the cue waits. If we, as a family, want to make it movie & pizza night, then the cue waits again. If the buyer of the cue can't wait then he can find another builder. I'm NEVER going to give up my free time in life to build a cue so that somebody else can enjoy their free time, for any amount of money. I work when I want to, when it's enjoyable for me. How often is that? Pretty often but nothing is set on a calender.
My guess is that many cuemakers are like this. Then there are those who go at it like it's a career & dedicate their lives to it. We all have our ways. But in the end there are always misunderstandings. It's the human way.
