When I was just out of high school a classmate of mine, also just out of school, Ray, was at one of the joints us young fellas played at, a bar called The Dew Drop Inn.

Ray wasn't a particularly big kid but he had a temper.

A disagreement over a game ended up with him using his cue on his opponents head and the guy died. Ray went to prison.

Here's a much more recent version that occurred at Brighton Billiards in NYC, this one, apparently over a girl.

disgusting, but possibly worse are the droves of people who view this sort of behavior as the apex of masculinity and something to aspire to... very sad.
 
I work occasionally with a man who not once but twice went to prison for beating a man with a pool cue. After his 1st sentence was over he done the exact same thing again and pulled 8 years the second time after putting the man in a coma for a prolonged period. Needless to say we don't play pool after work with the man
 
3 shots to the head with the butt end of a house cue and he is dead? That's crazy-It's usually very hard to kill someone like that. Many guys have survived many more free swings of a baseball bat. Still it is very sad
 
The very first Richard Black cue I ever saw was owned by a guy I met in the Jelly Jar bar in Edgemont, CA. (now it is called Moreno Valley) right outside Riverside, CA. This was back in about 1977.

Him and another guy or two got into a scuffle with some other guys outside Mr. Cues (I think that was the name of it, on Magnolia Blvd) over a parking spot.

Long story short, he ran into the pool hall and grabbed a cue off the rack and hit one of the guy on the back of the head so hard that he killed him right there in the parking lot. The dude swinging the stick was a big dude as it was...he probably didn't need the stick.

At least he didn't use the Richard Black, it was about an $800 cue.

Maybe in the movies. In real life only one (two at the outside) strong hits with a baseball bat will kill you. You might live if you get to the emergency room in about five minutes or the bartender has the prescence of mind to pack your head in ice. Otherwise, you're DOA.

I base my opinion on what i have seen on real videos and stories from True Crime shows. The baseball bat is the go to weapon for many guys seeking revenge plus deli owners or whatever and you just dont see all that many deaths. Maybe they just aren't connecting right.

Clubs, rocks, and hands have killed more people than all other weapons combined I suspect. A friend of mine killed a man with a .444 Marlin rifle. A 444 will definitely kill a man but this one was killed when he was hit over the head. The report called the skull "shattered".

Baseball bats are considered deadly weapons in some states. If you have one in your vehicle or by your door you had better have a glove and ball with it. Good reason, they kill quite easily. There are as many soft areas of the skull as hard or more I would guess. Can kill someone with a blow to the face, the temple, the top of the head immediately behind the hard part in the front, or the back of the skull. A full power shot with a bat or cue could kill them if it connects pretty much anywhere on the skull at an angle most of the force isn't lost to glancing off and continuing the swing.

Happens fairly regulary, somebody hits somebody with a baseball bat, cue stick, iron pipe, golf club, or any of countless things we see people beat on each other with in the movies and on tv all the time with no major effect then they are surprised when they kill someone. I lost a cousin a couple months ago, he tripped and fell on level ground. Bumped his head on concrete I believe, not sure.

Another issue, self defense isn't a lock even if the other person attacks. A fellow racer did eight years after he was punched in a bar. He carried his defense too far according to the prosecutor and judge. Best I recall he didn't even kill the guy, just cobbled him up for life.

When you have to defend yourself make sure that the attack justifies great bodily harm or death. Never know when it will happen. Some people are softer headed than others and even a body shot can kill. People have died from blows to the solar plexis, heart, liver, spleen, kidneys . . . I don't know what all besides the obvious tender spots. Liability stays with you for life too. Somebody just got charged with murder for an encounter from decades ago. Too much liability to tote if it can be avoided.

If you do have to kill somebody in self defense, neatness counts. My friend with the 444 found that out the hard way.

When i was 18 years old......

A guy named Wolf hit a friend of mine in the face and mouth with the butt of a cue stick. Did allot of damage.

I don't know if it was from the pain but he committed suicide the next day.

pretty sad.........

I taught my girls the best self defense move if ever attacked by a rapist and they have you down. When they pull down their pants, grab their nuts and squeeze hard. Ten pounds of pressure can break a testicle and that can be deadly! Debilitating at best for the perp. This is the one place where a rapist is the most vulnerable (and accessible) and most girls don't know it. If they did, there might be less incidents of rape.

That murder occurred in 2008,Christian Estevez then 38, was sentenced to 25 years to life after being found guilty for second degree murder by jury.
