Wow! That is really beautiful and remarkably well preserved for a cue made in 1757! Is that a leather tip? Great find!
:p

Excuse my ignorance, but how can that cue be 250 years old? I thought Francois Mingaud put the first leather tip on a cue in the early 1800's?

That cue looks awesome however I don't know much about its age... Could it truly be 250 years old? Wow...

Could you please post a picture of the whole cue?
Thank you in advance!

Absolutely beautiful old marquetry cue. Had I seen it on the French ebay site, I would probably have been in the bidding too. You have a real gem there.

can it really be that old? it has a leather tip!

but anyways, its a BEAUTIFUL piece!!!

WOW!!........that could be the centerpiece of any major collection for sure. absolutely stunning.....

the first indications told that the cue was probably early 1800's. 1790-1810. thats when the marquetry was popular and the design, beveled points, veneers etc all made us think this cue was from that period.

Now i contacted a profesional the have it identificated, dated and valued, and with the pictures alone, she told me it probably is earlier, because of the botom of the cue.

the 5 other same type cue's i know a french collectionar who has them, have the almost same design, but the butt is usually full leather.

this one has a ivory botom, but with a leather part. Aparently this is one of the first cue's with the leather on the butt, that prevented the cue from sliding when standing up against a wall and fall down..

:D got to love the masterpiece

my girlfriend even didnt take a look at it :( sometimes woman just DONT understand what its all about... :p

Mine gets mad everytime I get a new cue, so I have to buy her something. Last time I told her I would give her a Schmelke, she said "I'll never play with a Schmelke"

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find this cue. George Washington probably used it for a house cue.

i found the cue on the french ebay. i surf alot of 2hand national websites and forums. i was surprised exept me there was only one other bidder on this cue. i payed a ridicolous price. 1/10th of whats it worth.

i hit some balls with the cue yesterday, and even with the 15mm tip and shaft its LIGHT, VERY light. usually cues are around 450gr, this one weights close to 360gr. and its balance is amazing. but then again i like forward balanced cues, and with the tin butt and thick shaft it feels like air in my hands.

about the tip, i dont know. one thing is for sure, this tip is VERY VERY old. in fact it has 2 tips.. some kind of leather pad, and then a leather tip over it. maybe i am wrong about it, but i hope that when the person who will authentificate it, i'll know more about the cue.

I wanted it as a centerpiece of my private collection, but i never planned on having such an expensive cue... but if i sell it, i'll regret it forever. So I cross my fingers, i'll never need to sell it.

Great, Great cue, you are a lucky man. My wife says it gives her gripeing rights when I get a new cue. Whatever makes her happy. poolrod.

Solartje, you should heard my wife's language #%&@# when I show her the earlier post /thread, why I didn't bid! But I'm glad you finally got the cue.

Congratulation! Maybe you can get pictures published in a book, which would make it more valuable. I hope you got all the history from the seller about the cue >What estate, original owner or where he brought the cue. The reason- the seller have a very old billard light he was auction also [see his 30 day history] .

Who are you going to get to convert it?:) :) I have only come across two cues similar to this years ago, but was not able to convince the owner to let them go. Very nice.

good idea about sending pictures to people who might have interest in it. the bluebook etc...

The ebay seller gave me his phonenumber, and says he has a very big collection of old cue's. I'll call him this week, to get more info , and maybe even buy some other cues from him. at that price i feel like buying ANYTHING he has. :D

he promised to send some pictures of his collection. i'll post them here too, so others can enjoy.
