My 50th birthday present to myself

I was born on January 12, 1957 and spent the first 18 years of my life in Western Pennsylvania, where watching the Pirates play at Forbes Field with Roberto Clemente in right field was a great event for me. During my high school years when I picked up a cue, going to Pittsburgh to see the Steelers working towards those 4 superbowl rings gave my peers and I many opportunities to prove that only "real men" drank that crappy Iron City Beer.

I decided that the cue I would have made for me to represent surviving 50 years on this planet would have to be done by a cuemaker in the area that shaped my development.

I wanted a fancy cue, yet I did not want some drill and fill special overpowering the natural beauty of the woods selected

I now live in Portland, Oregon where I obtained this old Centennial case that once belonged to Portland road player Bill Cress who was amazed when he saw this cue how well the wrap matched his old case

What is even more amazing to me is that Paul and Bill are friends from years ago in the Pittsburgh area, and that Paul had absolutely no idea I owned this case

Thank you Paul for creating what hopefully someday a young man will walk into a pool hall and when asked will say "this was my grampa's cue"

Very nice cue and case...congrats! That is one fine combination and quite a B-day present. Happy 50th.

Come to think of it...I just turned 46 and had not thought about getting a new cue on my 50th B-day, what a great idea! I need to start thinking about the cue I will have made for my 50th. Thanks for the idea.

50th present

Congrats. Paul makes some great cues and mine still shoots perfect after many years.

Very nice protectors as well.
Classic Mottey logo.:D

Maybe when I turn 50 I can do something to celebrate as well - with a new cue.

Nice cue. I noticed that Paul put the date to coincide with your 50th on the forearm as the completed date. That's a nice touch and a story your grandson will someday tell.

Very nice cue for your half-century celebration! I bet your full-century cue will be twice as nice! Congrats on survival!
:p

Very special gift for a 50th.
I do love the Amboyna Burl and the details of the pictures show it off very well.
WOW - enjoy.

Your cue is beautiful. When you talk of showing off the wood instead of ornamentation you did a fine job.

Where is there a website that shows the different kind and grades of wood that could be used in a cue? Is there such a site?

A lot of guys will state and describe what kind of wood is in their cues but comparison pics would be great.

Awesome cue/case combination and congratulations on surviving 50 years in this world. Even if you are a stinking Pirates fan, just kidding, big red machine fan here. Too bad both teams are horrible now.

Take Care and Happy Shooting with that monster cue.
