My first pool cue case!

First post here, just thought I'd show off the pool cue case that I made.
As I'm about to have regular access to a pool table, (currently helping my dad restore one for my brother in law) I thought it appropriate to get my own cue. As I don't have much money atm, buying a case was out of the question, so I made my own.
It's made from a scrap piece of cherry plywood tubing, 3" OD, and is covered in naugahyde. The straps for securing the cap are made from leather.
Here it is:

Interior is completely covered in that white padding. (I think it's sound proofing material)

Small storage compartment in the cap, big enough for a small tip pick, scuffer, and chalk:

Cue case

Looks great and very innovative! Nice 1st post. Welcome aboard.

This is the kind of post that warms my heart. Not only did you take the initiative to build your self a case you did a damn good job of it too!

I also built my first case because I couldn't afford one. Granted it was a case for my ping pong paddle but it was all mine just the same.

Good job - very clean execution.

nice work, great job. I like the tray on the top. Plaese post pics with the cue in the case

A-o.k........!!

When master craftsman ''John Barton'' gives you a ''thumbs up'' , you know you did a fine job !!!!

Way to go ,,,!!

Wow, wasn't expecting this kind of reception, thanks a lot guys!
Here's a pic with a cue in it (not my cue, I haven't bought one yet.)

That is a fact! In case the OP isn't aware, John was the founder of Instroke cases, which set the standard for all other cases. He now makes custom cases (of which I am still waiting for one of them. )
When he praises your work, you can be very proud!

Welcome! Nice job on the case, which you say you made because you didn't have the cash laying around for one.

I notice you say you don't have a cue yet and you probably don't have the cash laying around for that one either...

so.........what would a man with your inventive qualities do in this position?:D

Send us pics of the cue when your done with it:thumbup:

Excellent!!! That lid is a great idea.
Looks like enough room to make it 1x2?

You may be able to make three or 4 more, sell it here and get that dream cue!!!

Well done! It's a very handsome case indeed and you should be very proud of it. If you're helping refurbish that table, I'll wager that it will look just as good to.

Wow that looks very well done and thought out. Nice work.

I was expecting some half asss deal like I might make. ;)

Very nice job and being round makes it a little out of the ordinary.

I'm sure you've already thought of this but just in case, may I suggest you keep any chalk in that lid in a sealed chalk holder or baggie.

Well in that case, I'm honored.

Nah, don't think my dad's lathe is long enough. I might be able to turn out a 40" cue at most.

Excellent!!! That lid is a great idea.

I actually thought about doing that, too bad it was after I had already finished. :p
Looks like a fun project! How much did the materials cost?
Well, including the cost of the naugahyde and tube, $0. It was made from scraps and other stuff that was lying around.

Again, thanks a lot. I'm considering making another, I'd just need to find some more tubing to do so.

Outstanding job. You say it's cherry plywood tubing? I've never seen that in home depot-what kind of applications is that used for? such that you had access to scrap? Decorative interiors? Small pillars of some kind? Stairway railing? Whatever it was for-it looks perfect for your project. Congratulations on a very clean job.

Don't let relatives know how handy you are-you'll never have a free weekend.

I'm guessing this is not your first DIY project nor your last. Zero (or cose to it) cost projects are the best.

Take care
