My kids are not interested in pool

Bring them both in the pool room and then tell them that you want them to play a race to 5 against each other and that you'll give the winner $10...lol

Look around and realise they are not that far off.
Instead of trying to make them follow you, why not try doing something with them that they enjoy. Even if it is only once a month
They won't be young very long

Agreed. Try getting in step with your kids and show interest in what they like and everybody wins.

I love the game and my kids don't. They have their own interests.

I have 2 nephews I try to get to play. One nephew absolutely loves it, I've given him a cue and he can run 3-4 balls already, he's 9. My other nephew is 11, he has no patience for the game, when he's waiting to shoot he is chalking his nose, goofing off, has absoluely no interest in the game and is asking for quarters to play video games. My nephew that loves to play, I take him to APA events, my teammates love him, he's going to be a great player in no time. I still havent' lost hope in my other nephew, I just have to figure out how to get him interested. My dad taught me how to play and I fell in love with the game and have some of my fondest memories of the game playing pool with him.

The color of money...

My Father was a road player out of Louisville in the 60's. He took me to play when I was 10 and then got a house with a pool table when I was 12 and we would play and he tried to show me stuff. I didn't care about it until I was 16 and saw the color of money. Then I was on the table every day after school and couldn't get enough.

I still didn't really start taking it seriously until I was 19...

Once we catch the bug it's over, there's no stopping us. Shoot I wish I would've gotten the bug in golf instead, I'd be living the life right now.

I guess I got lucky with my children. Well the two girls anyway.

The second oldest daughter liked the game early in life. I remember when she was 8 years old and she was practicing pool with me on a 9 footer. She was hitting them pretty well. (she was practicing downstairs without my knowledge).

I remember just getting back into town from a business trip and met my wife and the kids at the bar where we were going to play league. While waiting for the babysitter to arrive and take them home, the owner of the bar arranged a game with my daughter and one of the local braggarts at the bar for a $50 game. She won this very easy and she was on 8 or 9 years old!

Anyway, she went on to an asst. manager position at a local pool hall when attending college. She picked up a lot from other people and we played in league together. Her playing enticed the other two children to like the game. My wife also plays.

We went to BCA tournament back in early 2000's. My wife and daughters played on two teams in the trophy tournament division. The team with my wife and second oldest daughter ended up in 1st place and the team with the other daughter, won 2nd.

In 2005, my second oldest daughter won the Open Scotch doubles national championship and has won 1st in several known tournament trails in our area.

But pool wasn't her main concern in life. She now an RN in the Emergency Room at a local hospital. The oldest is a licensed Esthetician.

My son plays occasionally, but not in any leagues. I guess being involved with your kids and the game will bring on interest if there is any. If not, it could be a blessing!. :)

Old age and treachery.....

I told the kids The first one who could video tape them beating the 9ball ghost in a race to 9 on video would get $500... Yeah I know how long that could take em to get good enough but the thing was they did not....

The boy started trying to beat the ghost and immediately came back at me with omg this is really hard... I explained the idea of starting with the 3 ball ghost and working up... He now plays pool at his grandparents house instead of vegging out on the computer and sets his phone up to record his attempts.....

He is also after me now to get my table finished here at the house... $1400 for Mark Gregory to do my rails and I had to dip into the table fund for xmas so I am still $900 short but hopefully in the next few months I can pigeon hole enough to get it done.....

I know alot of you would have said to set the goals lower so they didn't lose interest but the thing is I set them high enough to grab their attention fully knowing that once they started it was only a matter of time until the game did to them exactly what it has done to all of us...

The girl had more interest but no table to play on since the grandparents are different... I am pretty sure she will be on the table with him just as soon as it goes up.. She keeps asking me as well about getting it finished....

9 yr old hates pool

My son hates pool because I had to take him along a couple of years ago on a one day qualifier that might have taken 3 hours. Anyway, I had to clean out the garage for Christmas and got the pool table cleaned off for the party. The next day I set up a Break Rack and my son wouldn't leave it alone. I had him breaking pretty well off the rail and he actually made a ball on the break during a game. He WANTED to play regular games after getting to play with the cool gadgets. Hey, I don't care what it takes but I just cant have him hating the game. We even played again today because he wanted to.

Good story. Yes, kids who have a pool table at home can learn to love the game. Those exposed to the typical poolroom culture, however, are, far too often, turned off by pool.

My 11 year old enjoys playing pool. It is something that we have been doing for years now, in the beginning it was difficult because he being my son didn't listen to anything I had to say, or did he? After a growing spurt he is showing me that he has some good stroke, and so what if he rather kick at a ball than shoot it straight in...This is his first year in a junior league, and maybe his last. I signed him up to be able to play other kids, but with unlimited time outs and parents that use that to negate the children to play is quite frustrating. I can give any one of these people the last three and come ahead, I just have to tell my child that these people have not won anything in there life and most likely will not. We keep on playing, my favorite is usually playing scotch double with another father/son after league. Some will love it, some won't.

I love playing pool.

But my children hate it.

I want them to enjoy pool, so we can spend time together.

They say at the pool hall, there are only old and drunk people. I can get them into the pool hall, but most times they just stare at their phone or game machine.

Any suggestions?

Go out and celebrate! j/k

One of my 3 daughters got up to about a weak "B" and pissed away a blooming modeling career over it. Johnnyt
