I remember in an older post SJM describing himself as resembling
a certain actor. I believe he hit the nail on the head.:)

Here is the head referee for all important Betmore's Basement matches. See if you can identify him (he'll be running the new Black Widow Billiards parlor in Orlando if and when it comes to fruition).

Rolando!!!!

I need to make it to the Betmore Basement. It seems as though that's where the party's at!

SWC,
It's not the most festive Basement in the world; but when important visitors like sjm or yourself are there; the local pool community often congregates. Hope you make it for a visit sometime.

The betmore cup

Mr. Willie-

I see once more that you have tried to slander me and my intentions. I came to your 'den of iniquity' as a personal favor of others that would be in attendence.

I came with piece in my heart and not a bad thought in my mind.

I came as a friend.

But you have turned it all around - so now I am telling the 'world' that your so-called 'betmore cup' is in serious danger. If I am accused of casing the security of your famous basement, then lets make it happen.

After all, perception becomes reality.

You, sir - have been warned.

MG (Hey, did you play with Booker T???),
Well I will have to make a grammatical observation - it's only slander IF IT'S NOT TRUE. You have already admitted to carrying a "piece" during your visit; I can only assume the crowded conditions precluded you from using it in some sort of heist.

While you claim to have had no bad thoughts of stealing the Cup; I am skeptical in the extreme. What real pool player could behold it's magnificence and not covet it?????? Either you are not a real pool player (certainly a plausible explanation for someone from Alaska) or you secretly desire it. In any case, I'm sure we can find an appropriate wager as soon as you summon the gumption and fortitude to compete for it (or perhaps just purchasing a spine transplant could help). Good luck (well.....good luck in avoiding personal injury during the match....I still want to win).

I can tell that I definitely feel that I am not worthy visiting this beautiful place! It looks simply fantastic! I really wish that the almighty King Williebetmore once will allow me just some few minutes to step inside, feel the cloth and take some pictures!

Btw: Are your daughter married yet? ;) :D

RS,
Well, it's obvious that the Norwegians are much more refined and sensitive when dealing with royalty (unlike MG).

After your tremendous reports from the Phillippines; there is no question you are a true student of the game - you are always welcome in Betmore's Basement. While you will only be permitted to touch the cloth if your hands are rigorously sterilized first (like ALL visitors); I'm sure we could find time for a game or two if you are ever travelling through the area.

P.S. - No flash photography allowed....it might dull the beautiful luster on the Betmore Cup.

Rolando Aravena!

Rolando used to live in Greenfield Center, NY, not far from my house. From there he commuted to his gig at Amsterdam Billiards in Manhattan.

He used to come into Woodcraft when I worked there and talk to me about the exotic woods we dealt with. I had no idea at the time how well known and respected he was in the pool community. I sure wish I took some lessons from him before he moved away. He struck me as a very nice person, and I hear he is a first class teacher as well.

This thread is AWESOME, thank you for posting all the pics, it looks like everyone had a great time.
