Got it today.

Just got done watching John's DVD for the first of MANY times. Very well done John. Love hearing your thought process and your approach to each rack. This will really help me to approach each rack with more forethought and planning.

One criticism - you need some quieter chalk ;) :p

OK, downstairs to practice some straight pool.

hi

everybody thats bought one is in mail.the first day i sold 25 so it took me a day to catch up.now as soon as i get the paypal it goes in mail that day.hopefully everybody likes it.remember if it does not play right to clean dvd and sometimes certain dvd players dont work.the last dvd about 10 people out of 500 sent one back.i cleaned it,watched it and it played fine.go figure.interested to hear from you guys about what you think when you see it.take care .

about 5 years ago, I sold about 400-500 video's on a message board like this here, and WOW was it a complicated fulfilment thing, who paid, who didnt, who got shipped who didnt, everything that could have made things more complicated seemed to happen, I was just covering my production, copting and shipping costs. It was a full time job for a couple guys at my office and i'm in the mail order biz. Its a tough gig with out the right software-I have it now. But I havent produced another video-it wasnt about pool. John will do the right thing no doubt but he will need sometime to get it sorted out.

All I gotta say is I'm glad the g-string was never introduced.

Great DVD John and thanks for shipping it out so soon!
I like the fact that you DO make mistakes and show how to cushion the impact. Definitely going to watch this multiple times.

Schmidt Video

I got mine on Monday and watched it immediately. Great. The camera work could stand some improvement, but that's the only negative comment i would offer. The content is excellent.

Unfortunately we left the auto-focus on when we were recording. We didn't realize it until we had the master copy made. John and I discussed scraping it and trying to do a 2nd one but a run of 164 with running commentary was worth keeping in our opinion.

We would like to hear some more opinions when you guys have had a chance to watch it.

Thanks

Bill

It doesn't work...

...I still can't run more than a rack, even with John's excellent example fresh in my head  Do you offer a money back guarantee if I can't run a hundred balls within a week?!?:p ;)

Seriously though, the auto-focus issue is really just a minor annoyance (as well as that squeaky chalk:eek: ), but they don't really distract from the message. I did have to clean the dvd for it to work properly in my laptop.

I most appreciate the insight into his decision making process and how he reacts to changes he has to make to his plans.

My practice session today after watching the video last night really showed me how much work I have to do on controlling the cue ball with a soft stroke. John makes it look so effortless.

I have much work to do but this dvd will be a constant help.

Bad luck, but to stick with it was a good choice. It's fine and the next one will be better. sign me up for the first copy.

John & Bill not sure if you have ever seen the movie "The Jerk" with Steve Martin, but I can't help but think the auto focus issue will leave us straight pool players crossed eyed..........like the Opti-Grab!!!! Just Kidding of course.

John I watched it last night, and the info is sooooooo valuable. I think that you pointed out that "point in the rack" where you need to stay in control very well. Also explaining how to play like rack 1 and 2 when you get beyond 70 balls. Stay focused, not tight, don't play to not miss. Which is something that I know I do.

I am also glad you made mistakes............you are human. But, the recovery shots and the selection of the recovery shots is a great lesson, to help get someone to 100.

Thank you for filming and walking through your thought process. I am certain this will help me.

Mike

hi

thanks for the kind words.frankly i was so pissed i left the auto focus on.if all i had to do was run around 150 again i would have scraped it and started over.problem is running that many and explaining what i was doing was harder than i thought.i did manage to do it in 5 tries.anyway bill had to fly back next day otherwise we would have turned the auto focus off.and the chalk noise is too loud.my fault but the guy i rented camera from said turn the mics up so they can hear you.he also said turn auto focus off.he forgot to tell me turn auto focus off everytime you hit pause ,rewind, etc.basically though bill said these guys are interested in the info not the fact it was done by a professional film crew.thanks again everybody for understanding and im thrilled to know it is helping some players.hopefully things i do in the future on camera ill have a pro film it.p.s. bill you racked like a champion even without your gstring.oh well maybe next time.

Hi John. I got mine in the mail yesterday and watched the entire thing once I got home from work. Outstanding instructional tool! And your commentary is great. Have you ever thought of doing commentary professionally? Also, I appreciate your quick response, considering I just paid you late last week.

I can't even describe myself as a straight pool novice, because I never really taken the time to start playing the game. But your DVD seemed too good to pass up. It will definitely help me once I do decide to take up straight pool, whenever that will be. But for now, I'm still trying to conquer that 6-ball ghost. :)

Hi John,

I had problems playing the DVD in my regular DVD player, the sound was way to high, to the point that your voice sounded like thunder. And the screen would freeze up. I had experienced this on Nick Varner's Pro Skills Drills DVDs.

So, I put the DVD in my Blue Ray player w/52" HD TV, and the sound and picture was much better....except for the auto focus thing when you put the second tape in.

Overall, the quality of the DVD is pretty good.

Suggestion for future DVDs: I would like each rack segmented as a chapter. This way, if I stop in the middle of the video, then I can return to the closest chapter, rather than fast forwarding to my last stopping point. This would be especially helpful when you run 400+ balls.

I would think the sound problem is with your player and not with the DVD itself. I like the idea of chapters too. I fell asleep in the middle, extremely tired, not bored, and when I woke up the DVD was finished and I wanted to get back to where I fell asleep but ended up having to scroll through it. Not a huge problem but chapters would be cool.

John, my review is in my thread titled "So I get home today...." Would love a reply if you have the time.
