I wanted to build a flame cue but do it differently than anybody else. I love the vibrant colors against the black background. Instead of using dyed veneers, I went with woods that have naturally vibrant colors & figures to give the flame look. This turned out to be redheart, narra, & yellowheart. Trying to figure out which color to put where was a bit trickier than I thought it would be, so I mirrored the combinations in a series of overlapping recuts. It's very much like braiding, only with wood. Turned out ok, I think. I used scallops in the same way on the sleeve. To cap it all off, I used water buffalo horn accented with red canvas phenolic. Nice elephent ear wrap, too. Took me way too long on this cue. I worked on it a lil here, a lil there, for quite some time. Glad to finally get it out of the shop LOL
