My twist on flame design

I wanted to build a flame cue but do it differently than anybody else. I love the vibrant colors against the black background. Instead of using dyed veneers, I went with woods that have naturally vibrant colors & figures to give the flame look. This turned out to be redheart, narra, & yellowheart. Trying to figure out which color to put where was a bit trickier than I thought it would be, so I mirrored the combinations in a series of overlapping recuts. It's very much like braiding, only with wood. Turned out ok, I think. I used scallops in the same way on the sleeve. To cap it all off, I used water buffalo horn accented with red canvas phenolic. Nice elephent ear wrap, too. Took me way too long on this cue. I worked on it a lil here, a lil there, for quite some time. Glad to finally get it out of the shop LOL

unique style

It is always nice to see a cuemaker make his unique style. Congratulations Eric, you have created some great cues with your ring work, points and construction technique. All of which have helped you in creating a cue that can allow us to easily identify them as Sugartree cues.

And if we see a cue that looks like this, you better believe someone will be saying that it is "Sugartree theme" cue or "styled like Sugartree".

Having hit a few of your cues the playability speaks for themselves. Once agains hats off for bringing your own style to the table.

Wow! Beautiful cue! I don't think I've ever seen anyone make such good use of those woods together in a cue before. That's sure a lot of work there with all that re-cutting and that's sure a sweet result. I'd love to have one of these to run some racks with. If you have any others in this design in different woods please post them. Thanks for sharing!

Is this cue for sale?

No, it was for somebody.

I appreciate the kinds words from everybody. I had fun with this cue & learned a couple new tricks with it that i'll be using in every cue from here on out. That's the best part of going away from norm, learning new things.

Hi Eric:

I love the look of this cue! Your cues continue to impress the masses, and for good reason: they look great and play as well as any cue ever made. I have been an APA 9 ball Top Gun twice, and both times it was with an 8 point Sugartree in my hands. Concidence? I don't think so. Keep up the great work.

Best regards,

Mike

saw that cue in person 2 week ago. it looks 100X's better than the pic's. Eric have couple cues laying around the table & I keep on picking this cue up but Eric told me that was for someone already. if not, I would of took that cue in a heart beat. LOLZ... Eric ask me ireally like that cue huh ? cuz I think I pick it up 3 times as we were going in & out the house. whoever this cue belongs to will get a Sugar of a Sugartree

LOL I don't know if anybody really knows how much I hate making J/P's. But this fellow insisted. So I made a jig that makes it easier to do, and surprisingly it saved a lot of time & aggravation.

Hmmmm, trade for a single malt infused liver? Tempting LOL

Eric, I swear my liver's good if not it'd at least make good Foie Gras!!! Let's deal...pls?

Superbly healthy Jive!!

Great take on the classic flame veneers. Uniquely Sugartree, too.
Outstanding work, Eric.
