Needed Cored Snakewood Handle

I need a piece of snakewood that is cored to .750 to .800 for a handle. It has to be at least 12" and a pretty nice figure. If anyone can help me out let me know?

I've heard that highly figured snakewood is very difficult to get now!

It's tough to get in aged wood. It's abundant in fresh cut stock. The trees didn't quit growing. Demand outgrew supply, so the only stuff available now is fresh cut & usually in some type of cut up log form. There certainly aren't many if any high figured cue squares.

spend big $$$,

wait, wait, wait,

wait, wait, wait,

wait, wait, wait,

wait, wait, wait,

then radially laminate.

Well I have been told by numerous people that fresh cut snake wood has a drying time of like 40 years. I dont know if thats exactly true or not but its one of the main reasons I dont use snake wood along with its very prone to cracking.

Get ahold of Wildwoods and buy a piece that has been acrylic impregnated and you should have no problems with it. Other wise be very afraid as you have already been warned.

Do they have a web-site?

They won't touch snake wood.

I am having some woods done as we speak. I asked about snakewood and was told it was not good for impregnation. I know I have seen some done before but as I understand it, the wood is too dense so the resin cannot really do too much. Chris.

Stabilized or resin impregnated wood is disappointing, IMO. Many of the impregnated woods look great but are too plasticky or brittle for a good cue. No hope for a decent player for a forearm of resin impregnated wood without at least a .750 core of excellent maple or better. YMMV.

I don't think you're gonna like those woods as soon as you bounce them.
There's a lot of them in knife shows.
